BEATRICE SHERIDAN It is with great sadness that the family of Beatrice Sheridan, beloved wife of Peter Sheridan, announce her passing on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at the age of 89. Bea is survived by Peter, her husband of 60 years; her children, Mark, Blair (Jean Marc), Laura (Ken), Moira (Daryl), and Eileen (Sean); her grandchildren, Sarah, Jennifer, Seann, Julianne, Alexandra, Conn and Brenna; her brother Brendan; sisters-in-law, Nuala and Peggy, and many nieces and nephews in Canada, England and Australia. Bea was predeceased by her parents, Celia and Andrew Healy; her sisters, Sheila Gambin, Mary MacDonald, Anne Sewell and their spouses; her brothers, Patrick and Tom; as well as her niece Lorraine and her nephews, Patrick and Thomas. She was born on September 30, 1926, on a small farm near Tubbercurry, Sligo, Ireland, the fifth of seven children. Bea showed her strong intellect at an early age, attending high school on a scholarship. At the war's end, she followed her sisters' paths to England, where she did her psychiatric nurse training at Croydon. She worked at Black Notley, the Royal Worcester Infirmary, becoming Deputy Matron at Barrow Court at the age of 28. It was at a hospital dance in England where she met her future husband Peter. They decided to try Canada for a period of two years, making the trans-Atlantic crossing to Quebec, and went on to Winnipeg by train in December 1956, where they decided to stay. As their family grew, she put aside nursing at the Misericordia Hospital to work full-time raising her five children who all arrived within the span of eight years. Mom was an excellent cook, who over the years prepared thousands of meals for her family of seven, as well as elaborate and elegant meals when hosting friends with her own impeccable style. By the mid-1970s, with all the children in school, she began to work in the family business. Enjoying many summers at West Hawk Lake with the family, Bea also kept active playing tennis, ballroom dancing, and for a time, ice dancing. Bea took up swimming in her early 40's, when she decided to enroll all the kids in lessons. Swimming became her routine, doing laps for half an hour, five days a week, which she continued well into her 80's. A voracious reader and lifelong learner, she showed openness and curiosity, somehow finding the time when her children were small to participate in the Voice of Women for Peace, to study Esperanto, and practice yoga. In later years, she spent more time enjoying travel, volunteering, fitness, and the daily crossword. A devout Catholic, her abiding faith guided her throughout her entire life. Bea was a truly kind and gentle soul who had an innate dignity that was apparent to anyone who met her. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her family and all who had the good fortune to know her. Bea's family wishes to thank Dr. Rudy Padua, and Drs. George and Joshua, as well as the staff on 3 South at the Grace Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bea's name to a charity of your choice. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 St. John Brebeuf Place, Winnipeg with a reception to follow. Our sincere condolences to then entire family on the passing of your mother, and to you Mr. Sheridan. Growing up among so many parents' of friends, Mrs. Sheridan was always the kindest Mom. I recall popping in and out of the house over the years and was always greeted by her smile, her ever so slight Irish accent, and her gentle admonishment of the family dog. It was a gift to have been a young person in her presence. - Posted by: Grant Cockshott (Friend of the family) on: Oct 25, 2015

56 years ago on Coventry Road. The Sheridan family was an important part of my life. I will always remember Bea - calm, practical and ready to provide wisdom and support. Through all the years we have enjoyed cards and letters that has helped us remain attached to our early years in Winnipeg with fond memories of childhood and the Sheridan family who lived just down the road. I am fortunate to have known Beatrice and will continue to share the stories of growing up on Coventry Road. My thoughts are with the Sheridan Family and deepest sympathies. I can assure you, her memory will remain always as a very treasured part of my life. - Posted by: Jim Smithson (Family friend) on: Oct 24, 2015

It is with a mixture of sadness at her passing and joy at the memories of having known her that I heard of Beatrice’s death. She and Peter (forever Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan) were both very important influences in my life, giving me a chance to work and find myself during a period where that was very much needed. I suspect I was not unique in having benefited from their largesse. To Blair, Laura, Moira, Eileen and Mark my very deepest sympathies. You are often in my thoughts – even more so on this sad occasion. - Posted by: Andrew Burns (Family firend and beneficiary of many years of kindness) on: Oct 22, 2015

To Peter and all of your family. I was so saddened to hear of Bea's passing. I have very fond memories of all the times we spent together in past years. Working on skating committees, playing tennis and social times. Bea was a beautiful person, compassionate, practical and a great smile and sense of humour. I feel very honoured to have known her and her lovely family. It is so hard to lose ones wife and a mother. My heart goes out to you all. Our deepest condolences Blair to you and your family. Losing a love one is a difficult passage; losing a mother is devastating. Your mother's obituary indicates a very talented and elegant person that you always described to us. Courage to all of you! - Posted by: Denise & Richard Marion (Friend of Blair's) on: Oct 21, 2015

I will always remember Bea's smile and great laugh and how she never seemed to lose her strong Irish accent! A gentle and generous person, it is with great sadness that I learn of her passing. May her family celebrate her contribution to their lives and the lives if those she had the fortune to touch. Rest in peace Bea. - Posted by: Nicola James Addison (Friend of the family) on: Oct 21, 2015

Heartfelt condolences to Peter and family. Bea was a wonderful and caring woman and she will be greatly missed. Her absence at the church entrance, greeting all who come through will be very noticeable. You are in my prayers. May Bea rest in peace in the arms of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. - Posted by: Drin Jones (Friend from St John Brebeuf Church) on: Oct 20, 2015
