MARY MARGARET VANSTONE Born in Winnipeg on May 17, 1910, Mary Margaret Vanstone passed away peacefully at Tuxedo Villa on October 17, 2015 in her 106th year. Mary Margaret grew up in the Riverview area and lived there for most of her life. She attended Riverview School and Kelvin High School. During the Second World War, she worked for the R.C.A.F. No. 2 Training Command. After the war, she worked for Trans-Canada Airlines (TCA)/Air Canada for thirty years, retiring in 1975. Mary Margaret was a life member of the Air Canada Retirement Club and the Western Canadian Aviation Museum. She was also an active member of the Golden Rule Seniors. A skilled knitter, she crafted toys and blankets to support the fundraising activities of various charities, and she was also an avid and successful gardener. She was a lifelong, and faithful member of the United Church of Canada, and attended Riverview (now Churchill Park) United Church. She was predeceased by her parents, William Albert Rufus Vanstone and Mary Elizabeth (Eliza) Pritchard. Mary Margaret will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by many cousins and their families across Canada and the United States, including Stuart Bates (Clearwater, BC), Jim Doak (Markham, ON) and Shelagh Jennifer Squire (Kemptville, ON). Special thanks to the Home Instead caregivers, and Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Home Care staff, who helped Mary Margaret live independently for as long as possible. At her request there will be no service. A private burial was held at the family plot on October 23. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • This is a tribute for Margaret (as we always called her) Vanstone's family. My name is Beverley Olds and have been a long time friend across the many miles since 1953....and we always kept in touch at Christmas with an exchange of cards and notes for at least 55 years. Margaret and I worked side by side at TCA in Winnipeg keeping records of aircraft parts and calling them in for repair. Her message was always positive with very little complaints except the arthritis in her fingers that used to get her so annoyed when it came time to write me a note in her Christmas card. She sent me a lovely picture of herself on her 98th birthday and looked just like she did years ago! So sorry to hear of her passing and a big thank you to Shelagh Squire for her letter to let me know where Margaret was living and it was such a coincidence her letter was dated October 14th and Margaret's passing was October 17th....I am so thankful of the latest news about her. God Bless IIyou All Beverley Olds - Posted by: Beverley Olds (Long time friend) on: Oct 27, 2015
