EVELYN EDWARDS (ALECK) September 25, 1925 - October 23, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Evelyn Edwards, a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Predeceased by her parents, Florence and Joseph Aleck, and her brother Joe Aleck. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harry, sister Vivian (Elvin), children: Terry (Mike), Reid, and Grant (Asha), and grandchildren, Sabrina (Rick), Cory, Logan, Ally, Marlo, Veronica and Sydney, as well as great-granddaughter Kyah, nieces, nephews and friends. Mom married Harry on July 19, 1947. Theirs was a strong and enduring love and not a night went by that they didn't share a goodnight kiss and an 'I Love you'. We recently celebrated her 90th birthday with friends and family, as Mom loved a party! Mom started her career as a fashion model, and continued to keep up with the latest fashions and trends. She worked in administration with the Provincial government, and at the University of Winnipeg. An avid antique collector, a passion she shared with Harry, she was well known among the collector circles. She was skilled at many hobbies including sewing, knitting, hat making and oil painting. Mom was a 5-pin bowler and won many trophies in her bowling league. She was active in school associations, Knox United Church, and as a volunteer in the community. Mom loved traversing North America and visiting the British Isles and enjoyed the many stories of adventure from her children and grandchildren who inherited her wanderlust. Mom had a fabulous sense of humour and came up with many "Momisms" that still keep us laughing. God rest your soul Mom. May the place you are now be a place where love and peace are universal. We love you. The family would like to thank the care providers on Floor 5 at Seven Oaks Hospital, in particular Judith RN and Carla RN whose compassion and caring made a difficult time easier for all of us. Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28 at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Auntie Evelyn was a wonderful mom and and a great sister to my mom Vivian. They had many conversations about her love for Christ and I am so happy to know that she is in heaven. They were very close and as they grew older their phone calls showed the love they had for one another. She was so supportive to my mom when my sister, Leslie, passed away from cancer. My mom shared a closeness that no one will ever understand. May the Lord wrap his loving arms around your family and my mom at this time. - Posted by: Greg Simcoe (My auntie) on: Oct 29, 2015

  • Aunt Evelyn was a wonderful, kind, and sincere lady who will be sadly missed. I know my dad (Joe) is with you, this world has lost some very special people. Our deepest condolences to Uncle Harry and all of her family. God Bless. - Posted by: Wayne and Susan Aleck (Nephew and wife) on: Oct 28, 2015

  • I remember my Aunt Eve being very frugal but she always gave the best birthday and Christmas presents. We had a special bond and I will miss that with her. I know she is looking down on me and smiling. - Posted by: Cindy Dykun (Niece) on: Oct 27, 2015
