NOELLA NICOLAS (NOLETTE) 1948 - 2015 Peacefully Noëlla Nicolas (née Nolette), died on October 24, 2015 at Riverview Health Centre, with her loving husband by her side. Mom was predeceased in death by her parents Samuel and Dorothy Nolette, her father-in-law Ernest Nicolas, son-in-law Alain Picton, brother-in-law George and sister-in-law Denise. Mom is survived by her devoted husband (Léo), her three children Joanne, Léo Junior (Michelle) and Brigitte (Don Marlow), her grandchildren Cody, Kieran, Marie, Isabelle, her sisters and brothers Marguerite (Denis Côté), Ida (Louis Berthelette), Ernie, Danny (Liliane), Darlene (Jacques Sorin) and Martin (Louise), her mother-in-law Annette Nicolas, as well as four sisters-in-law Georgette, Claudette, Suzanne, and Simone, three brothers-in-law Gilbert, Marcel, and Gerald, and many nieces and nephews. Mom was born on December 23, 1948 and grew up in Ste. Agathe, the third oldest of a family of seven siblings. At a young age, Mom loved caring for her younger siblings and continued to do so until leaving the family home. With the help of ma tante Georgette, Mom was introduced to Dad on February 1, 1969, and they were married only six months after on August 2. They were warned by some that it wouldn't last but their love for each other continued for 46 years. As a mother, Mom was amazing and always wanted the best for her children. She was fiercely protective of her children and would stand up to anyone in their defense. She was an excellent cook and always kept the house in pristine condition. After dedicating many years in raising her children, Mom started working at Foyer Valade and Golden Links Lodge. She was a dedicated health care provider, loved her work and the elderly that she cared for. There was no end of patience, kindness and generosity of her time and genuine compassion for the residents she cared for. After 16 years devoted to caring for others, she decided to retire in 2006 to spend quality time with her family and to enjoy a more leisurely life. Mom's toughest fight began four years ago, when she was first diagnosed with colon cancer, liver and lung cancer in 2013, and brain cancer in 2014. Throughout this ordeal, Mom maintained the will to live, somehow managed to keep a smile on her face and met each challenge head on. Her perseverance, determination and unwavering faith kept her going through these difficult times. A celebration of her life will be held at Mary, Mother of the Church located at 85 Kirkbridge Drive at 11:00 a.m. on October 29, 2015. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Noëlla to CancerCare Manitoba. The family would like to thank the many health care providers for the care, kindness and support given to Mom during her illness. Special thank you to family and friends (Georgette, Darlene, Esther, Lee, Diane, Mimi) who were there for us in times of need.
