Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACK DAVID DURANT JOHNSON Staff Sgt. WPS (Ret.) On October 26, 2015 at Riverview Health Centre, Jack Johnson passed away at the age of 68. Jack is survived by his loving wife Janice, sons Andrew (Carrie) and Matthew (Dara) and grandchildren Bradach (Brady), Annika, and Olivia. He is also survived by brothers Lloyd (Alene), Tim (Anna), Don, sisters-in-law Catherine, Pat (Fletcher), Donna and Mimi, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Marjorie, his brother Doug and brothers-in-law Terry and Bob. Jack was born in Winnipeg in 1947, raised on Strathcona Street in the West End and attended school at Clifton, Sargent Park and Daniel McIntyre. He was very active at Clifton Community Club and enjoyed playing on the DMCI Maroons football team. It was his wish that a scholarship in his name be created to recognize an individual's self-development, sportsmanship and leadership qualities. Jack began his career with the Winnipeg Police Department (WPS) as a cadet in 1967. It was a job he loved and dedicated himself to, retiring after 34 years of service. During his time with the Department he worked in numerous divisions, including traffic, research and planning, the radio project and communications. At the same time, Jack earned a B.A. from the U. of W. in Justice and Law Enforcement. He was also the first graduate of the new police studies program at the Canadian Police College. In addition, he enjoyed several years as a tenor drummer with the Police pipe band, especially the time when in the 1970s the massed band led the Rose Bowl parade. Jack was a member of Acacia Masonic Lodge, No. 111. Many a summer was spent at the family cottage on Coney Island, where Jack enjoyed tinkering and working on major projects. He followed with great interest the planning and building of the new cottage. Jack was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother. It was always "Family First" with Jack. A big thank you to Dr J.G. Sutherland and Maureen, the St. Boniface Heart Failure clinic, home care nurses, the palliative community nurses and the staff of 3E Riverview Health Centre for their outstanding care and compassion. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the "Jack Johnson Memorial Football Scholarship" payable to the Winnipeg Foundation, referring to the scholarship fund, 1350 - 1 Lombard Pl., R3B 0X3, or online at www.wpgfnd.org or a charity of your choice. My sincerest condolences go to Jan, Andrew and Matthew at this very sad time. Jack was a wonderful friend and neighbour, always there with a smile and willing to help. I'm so glad that he was able to come to Jeff's wedding in the spring. That is how I will remember him. My love to you all and to Jack's other friends who are hurting now too. We'll be strong together. We love you Jan. - Posted by: Liz Mitchell (former neighbour and friend) on: Oct 28, 2015
