SKAPTI FRIDFINNSON With great sadness we announce the passing of our dearly loved husband, father and Afi, Skapti Fridfinnson, on November 3, 2015 at the Arborg Personal Care Home. Skapti was born on April 24, 1930 to Jakobina and Krismundur Fridfinnson and grew up on the homestead Artun in the Geysir district. He attended Island School and was a lifelong farmer, an interest he never lost after his "retirement" in 1992, from his partnership with his brother Numi. Once a farmer, always a farmer, his passion for the land he loved continued. In the last years when he was no longer able to operate equipment, he got great pleasure to go for a ride into the country and do the crop checks. In his last days he talked about the harvest, and hoped his fellow farmers were able to get their crops to the bin. Mom and Dad met at the Geysir Hall where they danced to Johnny and His Musical Mates, their favourites. They were married on September 1, 1956 and raised their family in Dad's childhood home. Skapti was a loving, kind and gentle man. He was devoted to his family and they were foremost in his life. There was nothing he liked better than to sit around the kitchen table with family and friends. He was an avid reader, with a keen interest in history and geography, was proud of his Icelandic heritage, enjoyed a good game of cards, and toured the province supporting his grandchildren in numerous activities. He has left a legacy of love to his wife of 59 years, Norma, his children, Sharlene (Terry), Coreen (Barry), Blair (Deanna), Vern (Gerri), and Norman. He was predeceased by his beloved son Dirk in 1970. His grandchildren were precious gifts who brought him endless joy and Afi was so treasured by Quinn (Sébastien), Dayn (Deanna), Jenelle (Tomas), Blaine (Kaitlyn), Whitney (Kyle), Wyatt (Maegen), Jared, Jensen, Jake and Johann. Over the past three years Afi's love embraced his great-grandchildren, Frédéric, Theo and Emmett, Logan and Matteo, Kenley and Walker, Liam and Aden. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Vordis, brother Junius and sister-in-law Grace, along with his extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Skapti was predeceased by his parents Jakobina and Krismundur, and brothers, Leifur, Numi and Kjartan. Honorary pallbearers are all of Skapti's grandchildren. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Siddiqui and the staff of the Arborg Personal Care Home for the compassion and loving care provided to Skapti. A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer Society, Arborg Bifrost Rec Centre, Arborg Personal Care Home or a charity of your choice.
