Kay and David were very committed to the community and created the David and Katherine Friesen Family Foundation, founded Menno Simons College, the Winnipeg Mennonite Elementary School and the Menno Simons Christian School in Calgary. They also established the Katherine Friesen Centre next to the First Mennonite Church. Their commitment and generosity continues to have an impact in Winnipeg and throughout western Canada. Kay and her husband David were married for 64 years and shared a love of business, travelling the world and giving back to the community. Most important to Kay was her family, education and music. I remember Mrs. Friesen well, first as a friend of our family and later from my time as an employee of the Qualico Group of companies. Although I have not seen her for many years, she stands out in my memories as a gracious, considerate and gentle woman. Her patience must have been tested from time by her amibitous husband, Dr. David Friesen, a unique individual who had a significant influence on my life. She was always devoted to her family and must have been proud of their achievements in many fields. My deepest sympathies to the entire family, but especially to her children, Ruth, Bob, Victoria and Terry. May you mourn her passing, but in doing so remember all that she gave you. - Posted by: John Peters (Friend) on: Nov 10, 2015

Kay was a gracious lady, well-spoken and well-disposed. Obviously she was patient since Dr. David tested the patience of everyone he encountered, including God. Kay and David's daughter Ruth and husband Brian invariably struck me as people of exceptional caliber; they were upfront, genuine, decent and compassionate, even to those less deserving. Obviously Kay guided all her children in the right direction even in trying times but these two stand out in any setting. Liebe Kay: Ruhe sanft und bestelle dem Vater im Himmel einen schoenen Gruss. Er hat es mit Dir gut gemacht! Dein alter Freund, Jack Thiessen - Posted by: Jack Thiessen (friend for sixty plus years) on: Nov 06, 2015
