Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLES FREDERICK ELLIS 1927 - 2015 Charles Frederick Ellis, born October 2, 1927 in Golcar District, County of Huddersfield, UK, passed away suddenly on November 2, 2015 at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 88. Charles was predeceased by his parents, father, Dick Ellis and much beloved mother, Sarah Louise Ellis, and by his eldest sisters Dorothy Pinkham and Ruby Walker from whom he received much love and guidance. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Velma Elsie Mary (nee Weir); his son Richard (partner April) and children: Ashley, James and Kimberley; and daughter Lora-Mae (partner Jim) and children: Justin, Jessica and Jennifer. Charles was born in 1927 and lived his formative years influenced by the conditions of the depression of the 1930s which proved to be an agonizing but valuable life experience. Charles received his basic education by winning a scholarship to Royds Hall Grammar School, following which he served an apprenticeship and completed studies at Huddersfield Technical College, Huddersfield, UK in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. Charles completed his National Service in the British Army with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, serving in Singapore, India and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). Charles came to Canada in 1951 and spent the majority of his working life in technical positions in the oil and natural gas industry, with his final eight working years employed by Transport Canada as a Power Engineer.
