ABRAM (ABE) MARTENS Abram Martens was born April 24, 1929 at Speedwell, SK where he attended a one room school. The family moved to Elm Creek, MB in 1949 where he farmed with his dad till 1955 and continued to live with his mom till 1979. He retired in 1995 and moved to the town of Elm Creek. Some of his favorite activities included his horse Rex and collecting antiques. There was not a sale in the neighborhood where Abe did not "negotiate" a good deal. A great deal of time was spent on his special hobby, his Model A coupe which was his pride and joy and was seen on the streets of Elm Creek and beyond on festive days, moving well within the speed limit. Whenever Johnny Cash or Wilf Carter were playing their favorite western music Abe would join them in full force, singing heartily the praises of western music. Abe was predeceased by his parents, Johann and Katarina (Neufeld) Martens, his brothers Peter, Cornelius, John and Jacob, sisters Elfrieda Enns, Erena Henrietta Martens, sister in-law Edna (Baerg) Martens, brother in-law Peter Enns and nephew Arnold Martens. Abe will forever be remembered by his twin brother Henry (Anna), sisters Stella (George) Wiebe, Katie (Henry) Visch, Margaret (Walter) Dyck, sisters-in-law Katie Martens and Agnes Martens. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elm Creek Mennonite Brethren Church. The family would like to thank the staff of the Carman Hospital for their attention and loving care. Doyle's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. www.doylesfuneralchapel.com
