AUDREY BERTHA LEACH JOHNSON
Born: May 28, 1936
Date of Passing: Nov 11, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAUDREY BERTHA LEACH JOHNSON May 28, 1936 - November 11, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Audrey Bertha Leach Johnson on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Grace Hospital, after a short illness. She is predeceased by her husband, Ron Johnson; her parents; and her brother. Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are: her sister, Laurel Rector (Edward); and her nieces Sherry Leach Helm (Glenn), and Willow Rector (Barb Cosman). Audrey was the cherished eldest child of Alvin and Bertha Leach, and she enjoyed family life in the West End with her sister, Laurel, and brother, Wayne. Their home was a hub for aunts, uncles, and cousins who came into the city from their respective farms in rural Manitoba. It was a busy house, full of light, laughter, and fun. The family was a strong presence in the community and was actively involved in Home Street United Church, where Audrey made many friends and her faith was shaped and nurtured. Summers were spent at the family cottage at Gull Lake, which was well known for its hospitality and beautiful gardens. After graduating from Daniel McIntyre in 1954, Audrey began working at London Life as an executive assistant and maintained that position for 42 years. She worked hard, but also had a lot of fun, and made many important and long-lasting friendships with her co-workers. Audrey's work ethic was also reflected in her volunteerism. Over the years, she volunteered for many organizations, but most notably the churches she attended. She served on many committees and the Executives at both Maryland and Silver Heights United. In 2014, she was honoured with the UCW Life Membership Pin in recognition of all her years of service. After caring for her parents for most of her adult life, Audrey met Ron Johnson and they formed a deep and loving bond that was celebrated at their marriage in 1991. Their marriage thrived for many years as they worked, travelled, and enjoyed one another. As Ron's health began to decline, Audrey's love and devotion intensified. In time, they became part of a new community at Calvary Place where, after Ron's death in 2012, Audrey continued to be an active volunteer. Audrey's generosity, devotion to others, and zest for life was celebrated on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Silver Heights United Church. The family would like to thank Reverend Don Johnson for his spiritual care and a beautiful service. They would also like to thank the staff of the ER, Ward 4 South, and the ICU at the Grace Hospital for their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
