ROSINA CANNIZZARO It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing away of Mrs. Rosina Cannizzaro on November 14, 2015. Rosina emigrated from Calabria, Italy in 1958. After crossing the great Atlantic by ship, Rosina settled in Winnipeg, Canada with her husband Antonio Cannizzaro. Here, she laboured as a seamstress in the Winnipeg garment industry for the better part of 15 years. Although Rosina endured harsh Winnipeg winters and the challenge of integrating into Canadian society as an Italian immigrant, like most, she dreamed of a more prosperous life in North America. Rosina thrived among her family and friends in Winnipeg. However, she never forgot her Italian roots and often longed for her old country. She diligently raised four children who each exemplify, in different ways, their mother's greatness. Rosina is described as the matriarch and "heartbeat" of the Cannizzaro family and was greatly adored and respected by all. Rosina's great generosity was bestowed upon all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She extended an angelic presence, sharing wisdom, courage, laughter, kindness, generosity, loyalty and warm meals on cold nights. Her selflessness and total devotion to her friends and family was a truly remarkable quality; Rosina embodied unconditional love in its most pure form. Rosina is survived by her husband Antonio Cannizzaro and sister Maria Farina, as well as her four children and only grandchild; Vince Cannizzaro, Joseph Cannizzaro, Maria Fontaine, Laura Cannizzaro-Smith and Anthony Cannizzaro-Smith. She is also survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Craig Smith, Robert Fontaine and Fiona Moola. The viewing will be held on Friday, November 20 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, with a funeral mass to be celebrated at 11:00 am. Entombment to follow at Holy Angel Mausoleum, Hwy #1 East at Navin Road. We cast off dear Rosina to the heavens above with the hope that we will see her again. We hold her forever in our hearts. Rosina truly was the embodiment of her namesake, a rose itself. She was beautiful, delicate, and forever in bloom. "Seek, and you shall find."
