ED GRIFT It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our brother Ed Grift on November 16, 2015. Ed was born in Winnipeg on September 29, 1942. He was predeceased by his mother Mary; father Yohan; sister Marlene; and brother-in-law Ed. He is survived by his brothers Bert (Penny), Larry (Fran) Arch; sisters JoAnn Lippens (Don), Mary Ann Stewart (Mike) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a kind, brilliant, well-educated man. After graduating from St. Pauls High School, he went on to study at the Pius X Seminary where he received a degree in Philosophy. He then obtained a teaching degree, where he taught in Flin Flon and Gypsumville, Manitoba. After these achievements, he studied three years in Veterinary Medicine but his studies ended abruptly when without warning, schizophrenia quickly laid claim on his brilliant, beautiful mind. As difficult as his life journey was, he accepted the hand he was dealt. He looked forward to his weekly lunch dates with his siblings. He used his creativity to tell humorous stories and jokes. He got a charge out of sharing his jokes with others, especially if they caught on! He spoke fondly of the River East Personal Care Home and often said that he would recommend it to anyone. He was content spending his final chapter of life with the staff and residents. Thank you River East for your compassionate care. Thank you to the quick reaction of the restaurant patron who administered emergency measures until the first responders arrived. Sincere thanks to the first responders and medical staff in ICU at Grace Hospital and Concordia Hospital. As keeping with Ed's generous spirit, he chose to donate his organs. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Ed's memory can be made to the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society. Ed, you will always be loved and remembered.
