RONALD THOMAS HARDIE
Born: Mar 07, 1937
Date of Passing: Nov 18, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD THOMAS HARDIE March 7, 1937 - November 18, 2015 Peacefully on November 18, 2015, Ron left us to join the love of his life, his wife Carol, and his parents Bill and Trudy Hardie. He will be forever loved, remembered and quoted by his children, Laura (Kerry), Roy (Cherylene), Andrew, Valerie (Doug), grandchildren Thomas (Sarah), Erik, Cole and Quinn, Tracey, Barbara and Kevin. Ron will be missed dearly by brothers Bill (June), Dave (Elaine), Carol's sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews and their families. Ron was raised in West Kildonan but during the war lived from Victoria, BC to Truro, NS. He and Carol married on May 2, 1959 and they moved to Calgary for a year where Ron worked at Park Hill Bedding and then again back in Winnipeg. In 1965 they moved to Warren where they raised their family. Ron then traveled the highway working the night shift at Burns for almost 30 years. He fully participated in small town life as a volunteer firefighter with the Warren/Woodlands Fire Department, Warren hall board, leader with the first Warren Scouts, and as a member of the Warren Lions. Summer holidays were family camping trips all around Manitoba including his favorite place, West Blue Lake. He loved hunting and fishing, as much for the socializing as the sport. In retirement Ron and Carol enjoyed many bus trips and winter trips to Texas and Penticton, BC reconnecting with relatives and friends. His retirement career as Rear Admiral at Riddell's Roasters was never a job, it was a lot of laughs. In 2003 Ron and Carol moved to Stonewall and expanded their circle of friends again, to include staff at The Rock and D&D's. Dad was generous to a fault, the neighbour you wish you had, the friend you had for life and the co-worker that made work fun! He was the dad that made popcorn on Friday nights, the fort in the snow and put the duck boat in the water each spring. He was the Grandad camping with his grandkids, canoeing on the river, fishing and swimming! He was a dog's best friend and a proud Canadian. Strangers were just friends he was about to meet. His laugh was contagious and his pranks memorable. He was fascinated by planes and despite hearing loss, always heard them! He brightened a room and throughout his life had the heart of a child. Heaven is a brighter place today with his smile. Special thanks from the family to Dr. Graham and the nurses and staff at Stonewall hospital for their genuine compassion and care, to the Stonewall Paramedics who he knew by name, as well as relatives, neighbours and friends who have given dad such great support especially in this past year. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall, MB. In lieu of flowers, if friends wish, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Warren United Church, Box 324, Warren, MB R0C 3E0 would be appreciated. I did not know your dad that well but what I did he always had a smile on his face and a glint in his eye, ready to pull a prank on whoever he could. It was always a pleasure to have a little chat with him as he was always so kind and had good things to say to brighten your spirit. He will have a blessed Christmas with your mom as they watch over the people they love. Remember when you feel a gentle breeze that is your parents hovering near you. - Posted by: Tim and Rhonda Cameron (Friends of Laura and Kerry) on: Nov 25, 2015

What a wonderful tribute to a warm hearted, fun-loving, simple man. Very grateful to have had so many years of wonderful memories shared with him and a privilege to have known him as Dad. :) - Posted by: Tammy (Daughter-in law ) on: Nov 24, 2015

Your dad was such a kind man, a great friend and neighbour. Your dad was genuinely interested in everyone's life story - always with a smile, a laugh and a nod to continue to share with him. We visited your parents at their home just after your mom's knee surgery. It was like being in a time warp, reminiscing about our time together in Warren! Your dad will be missed by many, but esp by you 4 kids and your families. His obituary was a true tribute to him...he was so proud of all of you! May you find external peace Uncle Ron as you are reunited with Aunty Carole. I'm sure she was waiting at the golden gates with arms open wide for you. I'll never forget how you taught me to skate, the times spent at the beach, and how welcoming you and Aunty always made everyone that entered through your front door feel. Rest in peace! Prayers to Laura, Roy, Andrew, Valerie and families. - Posted by: Lynne Lowe and family (Niece ) on: Nov 21, 2015
