Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I first met George at his house on Lockwood while looking at his 1930 Nash, I was 15 or so and had a 1932 Studebaker, and so the friendship started. Over the years we hunted old cars and old buildings together and had many adventures. When I was 18 my father had gone to the US for a while and I was left to my own devices. I started to stray and he helped me to stay on track. I moved away but stayed in contact and always visited with him when I was in town. He was my friend for over 50 years. I will miss his counsel, Christmas cards and notes. I will miss you old friend, go with God. - Posted by: Fred Dallyn (Long time friend) on: Nov 23, 2015

  • First met George Walker when I was directing Winkler Bible Camp. George Bock introduced us to George Walker and we found them to be "2 peas in a pod"! When we were in need of new cabins at the camp George Walker and George Bock came up with a new radical cabin design - they introduced the triangular cabin which became a favourite cabin for counsellor and campers. Camps around the world have used this model for their own camp cabins. Both men had a love for Jesus and for children and youth and wanted the kids who came to camp to have the best possible experience ever! So they developed the new cabin design based on interviews with both camp counsellors and campers and came up with 52 objectives that a camp cabin should meet! Then they asked the question, "What design best accommodates all of these objectives?" - and out of that came the triangular cabin design which George Walker drafted. George was somewhat skeptical that the camp board would actually go with this radical departure from conventional camp cabin designs and so he didn't want to waste too much time on doing quality drawings. He sketched out the design on a brown grocery bag - and that became the drawing "blueprints" we used to construct the new cabins! George Walker was deeply involved in the Living Bible Explorers that he and George Bock began as a ministry to inner city kids. George Walker continued to serve on the board and in a hands on capacity up to the present time. He exuded a love for life, a love for Jesus and a love for people - especially children and youth. He is a modern-day hero of faith! May his example continue to serve as an encouragement to others and may many emulate his example! "God doesn’t miss anything. He knows perfectly well all the love you’ve shown him by helping needy Christians, and that you keep at it. And now I want each of you to extend that same intensity toward a full-bodied hope, and keep at it till the finish. Don’t drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them." - Hebrews 6:10-12 The Message - Posted by: Ted & Mary Goossen (Friend) on: Nov 22, 2015
