Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY PENNELL (ELNICKI) It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Mary Pennell, at the age of 89, on November 23, 2015 at Golden West Centennial Lodge. Mary will be forever remembered by her daughter Deborah and son Barry (Kathy), as well as grandchildren Alisa (Chris), Melanie, Timothy, Andrew, and great-grandchildren Brayden, Mikayla and Luke. She is survived by her sisters Joyce, Elsie (Lou), Sophie (Bill), and sister-in-law Mary Elnisky, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband Harvey, of 56 years, son-in-law Rudy Friesen, parents August and Joanne Elnicki (nee Gashinsky), siblings Helen (Harry), Edna (Walter), Rose (John), Joe, Frank, Stan, and brother-in-law John White. Mom was born on April 5, 1926 in the farming community of McCreary, MB. She grew up on a farm in Glenella, MB helping with daily chores and cooking, She left the farm and moved to Winnipeg and then to Toronto for a short time. After returning to Winnipeg she met and married Dad on May 28, 1949. Living most of her married life on Sackville Street she raised her family and took great pride in her home. Mom was a wonderful cook and had a green thumb when it came to gardening and looking after plants. She enjoyed Christmas with all the decorations, baking and entertaining that she did. Mom would always be the last to sit as she wanted to make sure her guests were well taken care of. The family would like to thank the staff at Golden West for all their kindness and excellent care of Mom. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave. (across from Brookside Cemetery. Mary will be missed , I remember the time we spent in the main floor dining room and all her concerns and compassion for my mother. She always reminded me that they had the same hairdresser on Portage Avenue and they would get their hair done at the same time. She was a very caring person. I will not be able to attend the funeral on Saturday, but know you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
