ADELINE CHIHONIK (nee DZIALIK) June 17, 1920 - December 1, 2015 Monday, December 1, 2015 at 3:00 p.m., Adeline quietly passed away, at the Victoria Hospital, with her children at her side. She was 95 ½ years old. She is survived by her children Larry Chihonik, Christine (Rick) Station, Carl (Syd) Chihonik, Joyce (Rick) Loftson; 11 grand-children and 11 great-grandchildren. Adeline was predeceased by her husband John; her parents Frank and Angela Dzialik; grandson Darcy Chihonik; six sisters and two brothers. She was the last of the Chihonik and Dzialik era. Adeline was born and raised in Cook's Creek, across the road from St. Michael's Church. After attending Zora School, she worked at Canada Packers. She also worked in Malton, Ontario, as a riveter during the war years. After marrying John (Johnny) in 1945, they moved to a farm in Glass, Manitoba (just east of Dugald). Six years later, with three kids, they moved to Ottawa Avenue in Winnipeg, where Joyce was born. As the kids grew up, she worked at the Curtis Hotel, and at home sewing chamois pieces in the basement, on an industrial sized sewing machine; at one time almost breaking her neck running up the stairs to see Elvis Presley's first ever T.V. appearance. She also worked at the Grill Room at the Eaton's downtown store, and wiring motors at Wilson's Automotive. After another six years, the family moved to Kimberly Avenue, where she stayed for 45 years, eventually moving to Kildonan Manor when Johnny died. During this time, she and Johnny made road trips to Toronto, Windsor, Detroit; and Disneyland; a train ride to Churchill to visit Carl and Syd, and lastly to Hawaii. However, she really preferred to stay at home, cooking and baking for family gatherings at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. A devoted mother and grandmother, she cherished her children and grandchildren, taking great pleasure in having everyone over. Come spring, she always tried to be the first in the neighbourhood to get her garden in. Gardening, another one of her pleasures; all summer long in the backyard - planting, hoeing, watering and harvesting. We will miss her. Funeral service will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, 264 Donwood Drive, at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2015, with interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street. Pallbearers to be: Shaun Chihonik, Ben Francis, Christopher Loftson, Jason Lane, Andre Sinclair; with Rick Station and Larry Chihonik in reserve. Many thanks to Dr. Carl Duerksen for looking after all her medical needs all these years. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
