JOHN (JACK) SMITHSON Jack passed away suddenly on December 8, 2015. He is survived by his daughter Erin, son Clayton, brother Ross (Doreen), sister-in-law Joyce and Elinor Smithson and their families, his wife Barbara Boes and her children Roslyn Goodchild, Deborah Schippers, Doug Boes and Dave Boes and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Pearl, Phyllis, brothers Gerald, Lionel, Walter and ex-wife Jean. Jack especially enjoyed his grandsons Hendrik and Nolan Schippers. Jack was born on a farm near Pipestone, MB. As a young man he worked for the Highways Dept. as a surveyor and received the designation of engineer. After he left that position, he moved to Winnipeg and worked for various firms. He subsequently started his own fire and safety equipment business, The Safety Centre Ltd. and had a branch in Brandon. Upon the sale of The Safety Centre in 2000 he focused on Firetak Manufacturing and travelled across Canada and all 50 US states setting up distribution. Jack enjoyed nature, especially birds and trees, golf, camping and road travel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment to follow.
