Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERRITJE PENNING (nee VAN'T SLOT) Gerritje died peacefully in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 9, 2015 from complications related to type 2 diabetes. Born on June 12, 1928 near Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, she and her beloved husband Bastiaan Penning immigrated to Canada as newlyweds in the spring of 1953. She was predeceased by her parents (Johanna Bast and Berend van't Slot) and in July, 1989, by her husband. She loved music, dancing, playing games and travelling, especially to visit family in The Netherlands. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her four children, Margaret (David Clouston) in Victoria, Yvonne (Peter MacGowan) in Toronto, Robert (Karen Skrien) in King City, and Arthur (Heather Bell) in Winnipeg; by her grandchildren, Sean (Rachel Kidman) and Ryan Clouston, Skyler and Dileas MacGowan, Jesse (Sarah Newitt) and Mitchell Penning, and Julia and Joel Penning; and by her great-grandchildren, Riley and Quinn Clouston and Charlotte and Danielle Penning. She also leaves behind six sisters and brothers, a step-sister, in-laws, and their families in The Netherlands as well as a number of close friends in Winnipeg. A Celebration of Life will be held at Sturgeon Creek United Church on Thursday, December 17 at 10:30 a.m. Further details will be posted. Ik zal je herinneren als mijn lieve,oudste zus. Ondanks, dat we ver van elkaar woonden, dachten we over veel dingen hetzelfde. We hadden fijne vakanties bij jou en maakten mooie trip in Canada.
