GLADYS LORETTA SHIMONEK (nee REAGE) February 28, 1937 - December 12, 2015 With heavy hearts, the family of Gladys Shimonek announces her passing, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Gladys will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Arthur, of 59 wonderful years; son Wayne; daughter Wendy (Darren) Dusik; grandson Jordan (Shyla) Dusik; grandson Justin Dusik; great-granddaughter Keira Dusik; sisters, Shirley (Werner) Rottcher and Grace Wiebe, along with numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Gladys was predeceased by her eldest son Warren; parents, Rudolph and Helen Reage; brothers, Welton, Delner; and sister Dolores Klassen. Gladys was very proud of her accomplishments in graduating from Success Community College as a licensed stenographer. Gladys was employed at Eastern Sales for 24 years as a switchboard operator and later became the manager of sales, leasing and marketing. Gladys was the secretary for the family business Pardner/Shimco Construction Ltd. for 31 years. Gladys was a very friendly lady with a great sense of humour and always had a warm smile for everyone. She always helped out the less fortunate people and never passed judgements on anyone. Her kindness, love and generosity towards others was a very special part of her life. Family meant everything to Mom. She was a wonderful role model for all of us. Gladys loved her home and yard in Springstein, Manitoba. She also got great satisfaction while sewing, cutting and painting crafts, travelling, gambling and being involved with classic car shows. A bright light has gone out but Gladys will forever be in our hearts. No more pain, No more suffering, No more cancer. Rest Peacefully Mom. A special thank you to Mom's family physician Dr. Barbara Cenkowski, Dr. Julian Kim, and Dr. Harding at CancerCare, along with all of their professional and wonderful staff. Thank you to Dr. Quereshi at the Victoria Hospital and his amazing staff for all their help. Mom really enjoyed the private bed and the nice warm blankets. A huge thank you to Dr. Haratti at the Grace Hospital. A Heartfelt Thank You to all the doctors, nurses and nurses aids at HSC on GD-4. Honorable mention to Dr. Laura Chissack, Cialo, Zoe, Dante, Krysta, Lil miss nurse Candace, Debbie, Joanna, Josie, Jackie "EH", Mr. Willie, Jerome and numerous others for all their exceptional love, care and kindness to Gladys and family. Thank you to family and friends for all the phone calls, cards, flowers and visits during Mom's year long illness. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Interment to follow.
