JOHN FRANCIS DWAYNE PANNEBAKER John Francis Dwayne Pannebaker passed away in the comfort of his home Monday, December 14, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Dwayne was born in Winnipeg January 6, 1948 and grew up in Roland, Manitoba, and often spoke of his early years there, especially how he enjoyed playing baseball and hockey. In later years he loved watching the Jets and the Bombers, and passionately cheered on his favourite English (soccer) club Aston Villa F.C. Besides sports, Dwayne took pleasure in many topics such as history, politics and religion. After working for many years at McKesson Canada, Dwayne retired due to his health. He was always appreciative of his family, his many friends and neighbours who supported and assisted him when needed. He was a pleasant man who chose to see the good in all people. Dwayne leaves his loving wife Oriole, his beloved dog Buster, and his aunts Eva Pedersen and Marguerite (Al) McKnight along with numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Dale. Thank you to the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital, the Grace Hospital, Palliative Care, Home Instead and Home Care who cared for Dwayne. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or any other charity. Memorial service will be held Monday, December 21, 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My time in Roland was happily enriched by a childhood friendship with Dwayne, in part with his brother, and the warm reception his parents extended to a culturally lost little boy - me! I remember Dwayne as a gentle soul. We played ... of course. I don't remember a great deal other than he was pleasant human being then. Wanting to connect the dots of my childhood, I visited Roland after an absence of some 60 years and just before he passed away, I found him. When I called him, he immediately recognized my voice - if one can imagine that. We spoke freely, as if we hadn't missed a day, volubly exchanging our life's stories, giving texture to an otherwise bland and missing time-slot. I recall volunteering I had his information now, that I would call again, to continue our boyhood exchange. It was then he said matter of factly, 'I'm not in a good way, John.' Thank you, Dwayne, for being a good friend in Roland for a far-too-short-a-period of time, and for giving me a reminder of what good humanity looks like. You were a good Boy! • I grew up with Dwayne and his brother Dale. We had a lot of fun playing sports together and being friends. Losing them both this year brings back many memories which will never be forgotten. Rest in peace! - Posted by: Brian Burnett (Friend from Roland ) on: Dec 19, 2015

  • My condolences ; I had the pleasure of working with Dwayne at Stafford foods in the early 70's. We haven't connected for many years but I remember " Felix" fondly.
