Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER ALBERT ROMANYK January 17, 1921 - December 13, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander Albert Romanyk at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg. He will be missed and grieved by his loving wife Carole (Karolina); his beloved children, daughter Doreen (Ted) and son Robert (Handzia); as well as his cherished grandchildren, Anjelica Oien and Julianna Romanyk. Remembering him also are many nieces and nephews. Upon graduating from the University of Manitoba in 1943, B.Sc. in Agriculture, Al enlisted in the Canadian Army and spent the next three years in military service overseas as Lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps (RCAMC). On completion of military service, he returned to Canada and was employed by the Veterans' Land Act, settling veterans on farms in the Swan River and Roblin areas in Manitoba. Al married Carole Toporowski in June, 1949, and they resided in Roblin for nine years. In July, 1959, the family moved to Winnipeg where Al was employed by the Manitoba Agricultural Credit Corporation. His final position with the Corporation was as Director of Production Credit until his retirement in 1983. Al thoroughly enjoyed his role of assisting young farmers by providing guidance and government financing. Within agricultural assistance, he initiated some of the earliest agricultural development loans for wild rice farming, fish farming, tree nurseries and cattle feedlot operations. Al's kindness and generosity were well known in the community and the many organizations of which he was a member all benefited from his enthusiastic involvement: The Appraisal Institute of Canada, St. Andrew's College, Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, The Order of St. Andrew, Ukrainian Self-Reliance League, Sons of Ukrainian Pioneers, and Veselka Ukrainian Orthodox Summer Camp at Gimli, MB. We would like to acknowledge and heartily thank the staff of Tower 7 and Lodge 7 Wards, as well as Visiting Companion Joey (Medox Health Services), for the excellent and considerate care Al received during his six-year stay at Deer Lodge Centre. Funeral services will take place at Glen Eden Funeral Home on January 4, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Andrew's College, University of Manitoba, 29 Dysart Road, Winnipeg, MB. R3T 2M7; or to The Taras Shevchenko Foundation, 202 - 952 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB. R2W 3P4. Hello, Doreen, I have thought of you often and wondered how you are/were. I googgled your name and found your Dad's obituary. I hope that the funeral home still sends these responses to you. I moved to the Netherlands in 1973 to marry a Dutchman whom I had met on his vacation to the states, where we as a family moved to in 1963. Before he asked me for a divorce in 2002, we had adopted 4 children and had a foster daughter as well. He left us all abruptly. It took me almost a year to recover. I met a man in a local painting class and in 2007 we married, It took me a while but I became a mental health physician in 2007 and I retired last year. How are you? It would be fun to communicate with each other, I think. Please let me know if you would like to do so, I can be reached on What'sApp and on signal. - Posted by: Mary Elizabeth Wheeler (Grade school friend of Doreen in St. Vital) on: Mar 12, 2021

As my mentor in the first years of my job as Ag rep in Roblin & district, I probably was remiss in not recognizing Al's part in my early career. Carol, you and Al made me feel very welcome in Roblin. Thank you for all you did. I am now 87 years old and am still in my home with Elaine Adam, my wife for almost 40 years. I was planning to attend Al's remembrance celebration. I send this message that I am sure will reach you and your family. It was good to see the information about Doddie and your son. Please forgive my reticence and failings in not being more considerate. Ed Somers and Elaine Adam. - Posted by: Ed Somers & Elaine Adam (friend & fellow Aggie) on: Jan 05, 2016

I just learned that uncle Al passed away recently. He was the last Romanyk of his generation. He was a gentle man who loved his family and his heritage. My deepest sympathies to you aunt Carol, stay strong we wish you continued good health for many years to come. - Posted by: Tony Pliszka (nephew) on: Dec 26, 2015
