DEBRA GAIL BOYCHUK April 10, 1962 - December 16, 2015 With incredible sadness, we announce the passing of our dear Debbie, who broke free into the hands of God at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Born in Winnipeg, she is survived by her parents Frank and Anne Boychuk of Winnipeg; her brother Jason Boychuk of Toronto; two uncles, Peter (Adele) Boychuk of Saskatoon, Morris (Lillian) Boychuk of Wakaw, SK; two aunts, Ann Michalyca of Melfort, SK, Nancy (John) Shaban of Wakaw, SK, lifelong best friend Marc McKim of Ottawa, and honorary stepdaughters Selena and Katrina McKim of Winnipeg. Debbie also leaves behind numerous cousins, and honorary nieces and nephews. Debbie lived a full, happy, generous, and ambitious life. Her beautiful smile and laughter was contagious. She excelled at high school sport and eventually became a railroader, working at VIA and CP Rail collectively for 40 years. She loved trains, travelling across the country on them and serving the customers who take them. Debbie's generosity positively touched the lives of many. She often prioritized the care for others around her before she thought of herself. A celebration of Debbie's life will be held Monday, December 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul. A special thank you to Dr. Ringart and the staff at Health Sciences Centre who helped Debbie at the very end. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Debbie to the Addictions Foundations of Manitoba at www.afm.mb.ca. We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun. But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone. Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery 204-338-7111

Condolences & Memories (22 entries)

  • Amazing talent. The best story I have of Deb was about her ear for music. Back in the '70s she was at our home in Wakaw and watching the Carol Burnett Show. There was a song that was playing that had Tammy and myself up jumping around and Deb tapping her feet. She went to the piano and starting playing right along ad-libbing right along with Harvey Korman and Tim Conway. She played the song for the next 20 minutes just by ear. What a gift. - Posted by: Kirby Boychuk (Cousin) on: Dec 29, 2015

  • Dear Br. Frank, Sr. Anne and Br. Jason, We know how painful the sting of death is, and we are praying that the Lord provide a soothing balm of comfort as you review the precious promises for your sweet Debbie. "And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness and sorrow and sighing shall flee away." Isaiah 35:10 Keep trusting in God's promised grace to help you in your time of sorrow . . . Br. • I was friends w/Debbie when we were teenagers hanging out together with Debbie H. at Bible Student gatherings in the U.S. She was always such a sweet, sweet girl. I haven't had contact w/Debbie since those days but I came across a poem book just the other day that she had given me and those precious memories flooded back in. My heart aches for all of you whose lives she touched, esp. her dear family. May God bless and keep you close in His loving arms. - Posted by: Beth (Knockaert) Robinson (Friend) on: Dec 28, 2015

  • Deb used to love coming out to Charleswood Golf Club for my husband's tri-annual Fish n Chips night. We always had a laugh at work. Our condolences to the family. - Posted by: Christine Ward (Co-worker VIA Rail) on: Dec 26, 2015

  • Dear Ann, Frank, Jason, and Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins, Deb was a very special and unique person who would light up a room with her energy and enthusiasm. She was a gifted dancer, athlete, and musician. I grew up with Deb and spent many years on teams with her, baseball and ringette. Fond memories of her learning to parasail, surf and ski. Spent many days out on the golf course perfecting her swing. Deb was an enthusiast for the adventure and feared very little. I recall many occasions spending time with her and her family at church and family functions. My heart goes out to the family. I trust that you will find peace in her memory and comfort that she touched many lives in many ways that will not be forgotten. - Posted by: Margaret Templ (Lifelong Friend ) on: Dec 24, 2015

  • This is very sad news. Although I did not know her well, I did see her at the station in the early 90's as a ticket/baggage handler. We golfed a few times and yes, Debra had a huge smile and a infectious laugh. Her life was always full of colour and enthusiasm. She will be missed by all mentioned in the obituary for sure. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Tracy MacLean (Fellow VIA Rail employee) on: Dec 19, 2015

  • Dear Boychuk family, We are deeply saddened to learn of Debbie's passing. We have sweet memories spanning many years from the time Debbie and Jason were small children. We know Deb had a difficult struggle against an enemy much stronger than she was. We take great comfort in the assurance that the very next thing our dear girl will see is the glorious perfect Earth, complete health and freedom to do all the good she possibly can. We love you all and ache in sorrow with you even as we confidently embrace the promises of God's glorious tomorrow! - Posted by: Paul and Joyce Lagno (friends) on: Dec 19, 2015

  • She was such a beautiful lady and a love of my life. Life will never be the same without her. I know my life is better because of knowing her. She was the goal of my life and she brought me a lot to it. I am just having trouble thinking about life without her. - Posted by: Daniel Reiniger (Frind) on: Dec 19, 2015

  • We were shocked to receive the news of Deb's passing. Her zest for life and her intentions to help others never went unnoticed. My heartfelt condolences to Deb's family, special thoughts to Jason and my life long friend Marc McKim. Rest assured the difficult days ahead will be heart breaking, we are in your thoughts. • My family and the Boychuk family were double connected. My sister Maureen & Debbie were born a day apart from each other the same year. They were friends during school. When Jason came along, he and myself were close friends and were born a week apart the same year. As a kid I remember Debbie and other friends coming over to my house for birthday parties. We have pictures of these early birthday parties preserved on my family's slides. The last time I saw Debbie was probably 21 years ago as the Boychuk family were having a garage sale. I hung out with Jason & Debbie for a few hours, mainly indoors, not helping out with the garage sale. I found Debbie to be somewhat similar to my sister Maureen, as she would get mad at Jason & I being annoying little boys. R.I.P. Debbie... - Posted by: Bryan Coates (Friend of the Family) on: Dec 19, 2015

  • I am so sorry to hear of Debbie's passing. She was a gifted athlete at school and was such a great member of any of the teams we were on together. Always smiling. A true team player. Loved the early morning rides to water polo practice in the deep, dark winter. She was always cheerful. My condolences to her family and friends. - Posted by: Maureen Kilgour (School friend) on: Dec 19, 2015
