VIVIAN MAYBRODA - SILVERMAN With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of Vivian Maybroda-Silverman on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the age of 58 years. Remaining to forever cherish Vivian's memory are her loving husband of 24 years, Burle; her father Joseph; sister MaryAnne (Larry); brothers-in-law, Richard (Jo) and Neil (Shirley); nieces, Sheree and Amanda; nephews, Jeff and Josh; as well as grandnephew Hunter. She was predeceased by her mother Minnie; and her in-laws, Maussie and Harry. In January 2013, Vivian was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After major surgery and chemotherapy, we thought she beat it but it was not to be. It returned again and again, until she couldn't fight it any longer. She faced the end with courage and grace. Vivian was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She spent her entire life here except for two years in Alberta. Vivian had to return home in 1982, when she was diagnosed with and required surgery for Crohn's Disease. The Crohn's never slowed her down. She enjoyed life. Vivian had a successful career with the Federal Government, spending 31 years with Revenue Canada, where she met Burle. She retired in August 2012, four months after Burle, and they were both looking forward to many more happy years together. Vivian loved gardening and especially her roses. She also enjoyed reading and going for walks with Tiber (our dog). Vivian loved to cook and we enjoyed those meals with good wine. She had a marvelous palate. Her favourite hobby though, was shopping. Vivian loved getting new things and she was the best dressed woman at Revenue Canada. She was a beautiful person, inside and out. Vivian will be missed by all who were privileged to know her. In compliance with Vivian's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. Please raise a glass of your favourite wine to her memory. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at CancerCare Manitoba and Palliative Care Manitoba. Special thanks to the Gynae-Oncology team. Thanks also to our wonderful friends and family who helped so much throughout this ordeal. We all grew up and played together on the one block street in Winnipeg called Marsden St. I am so sad I never connected with Vivian as adults so thank you for sharing her beautiful story. She has left this earth far too young and has obviously touched so many. My thoughts and prayers go out to Vivian's family and I will certainly raise a glass of a fine Cabernet with fond memories of playing until the street lights come on. Much love, Cindy - Posted by: Cindy Pond (Marsden St) on: Dec 21, 2015

I was lucky to get to know Vivian through Revenue Canada. We worked together and soon become close friends. The world has lost a lovely lady and I, for one, shall miss her terribly. My heartfelt condolences to Burle and the rest of Vivian's family. - Posted by: Brenda Foreman (Friend) on: Dec 21, 2015

Vivian came into our lives through a mutual friend. It wasn't long before I was able to persuade her to join me on the board of directors of the Winnipeg Folk Festival. With her skills she began to work closely with the Business Manager, Bill Merritt working on the financial affairs of the organization. She eventually moved on to other things but was always missed by Bev and I and others she came into contact with around the festival. We are deeply saddened to hear of her passing - Our thoughts go out to all of her family. - Posted by: Derek & Bev Black (friends) on: Dec 20, 2015

Vivian was a true lady in every sense of the word. Such a beautiful smile. She had a good sense of humour and always had a hug. She always wanted to know how you were doing and had such a positive attitude. We could all take a lesson from Vivian about not whining about what you have to endure but just get on with life. We have truly lost a good one way too soon. My condolences to the whole family and a big hug to Burle. - Posted by: Toni Carpenter (Co-worker and friend) on: Dec 20, 2015

I remember Vivian as a vibrant, flamboyant actress in her senior years. I admired her confidence. It's been many years since that coffee-house performance, but I appreciated her participation in the production. - Posted by: Betty Rempel (high school acquaintance) on: Dec 19, 2015

I remember Vivian's flair for fashion. She always presented herself with great pride. I also remember Vivian's amazing handwriting; it was so perfect you'd swear a machine created it. But most of all, I remember Vivian's love for animals. She rescued her dog Tiber from up north where someone had poured acid on it, causing severe burns to its fur and skin. Tiber survived that terrible ordeal (and indeed thrived in spite of it) largely due to Vivian's tender loving care. This is yet another example of someone taken far before her time. It will be tough for those left behind, in particular, her devoted husband Burle. God Bless. - Posted by: Bill Head (Former Colleague) on: Dec 19, 2015
