Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERA EMILY HEDGES Passed away December 16, 2015 at the Grace Hospital. Born on December 3, 1921 at the family home in St. Charles, she was the second youngest of ten children of Patrick and Emily Hedges. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Charles, Bert, Archie, and Bill; sisters, Winnie (Adock), Elsie (1910-1914), Rose (Gibson); brothers-in-law, Charles Adcock, Lester Gibson, Cam Maddess; sister-in-law, Beatrice (Good); nieces, Vera Reimer and Peggy Kelly; nephew, Calvin Adcock, and great nephew, Stephen Bell. Surviving her are her sisters, Louise Maddess, Mabel Hedges and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great ones too numerous to mention. Vera was a lifelong member of St. Charles United Church and through the years served the capacity of clerk of session, recording secretary, Sunday school teacher and treasurer. C.G.I.T. Leader, and United Women. Her work in the church was a labour of love. She was secretary treasurer of St. Charles School District #2071 for seven years prior to it being amalgamated into Assiniboine North School Division. During the seventies Vera began a project of searching out the family tree, and spent a dozen or so years travelling to England each year for a period of three or four weeks at a time, meeting relatives, successfully searching and culminating in a small booklet, "From Whence We Came" that was distributed to all her family throughout Canada. Cremation has already taken place, interment of ashes beside the resting place of her parents and Bert, in the Garden of Devotion in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Our heartfelt thanks go out to our many friends who helped out during this difficult time. Especially to Linda and Donna, and to the doctors and staff at the Grace Emergency and on 3 south. A memorial service will be held at St. Charles United Church, 673 Isbister St. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vera's name to a charity of your choice. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715
