ROBERT A. (BOB) ROSS It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bob Ross, age 61, on Saturday, December 19, 2015, after a brief yet courageous battle with leukaemia. Left to mourn are his wife Marion, his son Daniel, his daughter Chelsea (Justin), his "little pumpkin" granddaughter Genevieve, his mother Jackie, his three sisters Linda (Keith), Beverley (Maurice) and Daniele (Harry), nieces and nephews, family and friends. Bob was born on March 7, 1954 in Lachine, QC. His tight-knit family of six moved to Mississauga, ON at the age of eight, where he later met his "brothers" Gord and George. At 20, Bob left for Depot and began a 40 year career with the R.C.M.P. While stationed in Gimli, Lynn Lake, Whitemouth, Moose Lake, and Winnipeg, Bob became a part of the community and fostered many lifelong friendships. Known for his work ethic, he was a dedicated member of both the Emergency Response Team and Search and Rescue. Bob was a willing teacher in all his passions. Fall was his favourite time of year and his favourite place was Badger, Manitoba. He was happiest when hunting, guiding or enjoying the great outdoors with family and friends. Bob will lovingly be remembered for his sense of humour, his compassion and his integrity. The family would like to thank Dr. Rimmer, Dr. Szwajcer, and the many supportive staff at CancerCare Manitoba for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba would be kindly appreciated. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. A private family interment will take place at a later date. • Dearest Marion, Chelsea and Daniel, I am so saddened to learn of Bob's passing tonight. He was my introduction to RCMP life. A life I enjoyed and lived for 27 years. He taught me the in and outs of police work and was always by my side in those early days. He taught me life and passion. He was the most dedicated family man I've ever known. He spoke of all of you constantly. Chelsea the apple of his eye, Daniel son, his hunting partner and Marion the love of his life. I have nothing but fond and so many funny memories. He taught me laughter was the best medicine and that my mouth would get me in or out of trouble in uniform! I carried that with me all of my service and it has served me well for many years! I hope you have found comfort in all he has been and all he will always be. • Dearest Marion, Chelsea (and family), and Daniel. We are so very, very sad to hear of Bob's sudden passing. He was a truly compassionate, loving, family oriented, community serving man. Bob always loved a good laugh...we will miss his belly laughs, and dancing moves out in Haack's garage in Badger. So missed..but never forgotten. - Posted by: Dave and Faith Haack (Badger Friend) on: Dec 26, 2015

  • Marion and family Our thoughts are with you and your family at this time. We are shocked and saddened. Bob brought humour, dedication, strong abilities and an unwavering motivation to get the job done. It did not matter if it was the most boring investigational task or a search and rescue mission into the night... Bob was our man. He taught me many things. I depended on him to teach our team many things. He will be missed by us all. R.I.P. John & Theresa Fleming - Posted by: John Fleming (Friend) on: Dec 26, 2015

  • Marion and family. I was truly saddened to hear the news of Bob's passing. It has been years since we'd been in touch, and strangely I was wondering about him in November when we were through from the Arctic. How I wish I'd followed up then. - Posted by: Clare Kines (Friend, co-worker, hunting buddy.) on: Dec 25, 2015

  • Bob was posted to Gimli in 1976, a year after I was. Our relationship has continued to grow over the years and many a laugh was shared while we learned the art of turkey hunting. We should have written a book. Marion, Chelsea (Justin & Genevieve), Daniel and family, Bob has left a hole in my heart and will be greatly missed by my family and I. We are better for knowing him. We will continue in our prayers for you. - Posted by: Rick Fuellbrandt (friend) on: Dec 25, 2015

  • Marion & family: I am so very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Bob was a wonderfully funny and kind soul; all while being such a hard-working, dedicated member & peer. I will miss his teasing smile and the way he brightened any situation (& our days) with his calm, fair and humorous way. RIP my friend. - Posted by: R. Souque (co-worker) on: Dec 24, 2015

  • I worked with Bob in Winnipeg Drug Section for several years. Bob was one of the true few who could be counted on to bring his work ethic every day, every shift, every task - and lead his guys by example. There are a lot of people who became better Mounties because they had the good fortune to work under, alongside or above Bob. As I read the comments and anecdotes above it brings a smile during this difficult time to see to a much wider group of family, friends and neighbours were also richer as a result of Bob's passion, wisdom, wit. Our most heartfelt condolences to Marion and the rest of Bob's family. Rest in Peace, you ol' Mountie. You will be missed. • Marion and family - I am very sorry to hear about Bob's passing. He was truly the salt of the earth. I can't think of one conversation I had with him where I didn't laugh within the first minute. • Dear Marion, Chelsea, Daniel and family...my heart bleeds for you all;and for the loss of such a great man. When I met him when I was 3..I instantly fell in love with his demeanor, his wonderful laugh, and his knee(lap). I would sit on his lap for hours. I can still feel his awesome happiness and laughter. As I grew into my teens he wasn't afraid to tell me in a real jokingly way, that my boyfriends...we'll just say he thought...I could do better:) I loved him more than some of my own uncles, so glad our paths crossed. He passed on my 42ND birthday. I am so glad his battle was brief, Love you all, Tracy Walld - Posted by: Tracy Walld (Family friend/great mentor) on: Dec 23, 2015

  • Bob came to guide for us several years ago and immediately became a part of the 'Family.' There are not many men like Bob in this world, someone whom I and others could count on automatically to excel at any task given. Warm and friendly, his dry sense of humor and one-liners always had me chuckling and his guests loved him. I truly feel like I lost a member of my family. I was blessed to know him and am humbled he thought enough of me to help me in my operation. My heart goes out to his family. There is a special place in Northern Manitoba, his favorite moose camp, that will never shine as brightly again without Bob there. - Posted by: Ken Gangler (friend) on: Dec 23, 2015

  • Marion and family, Our deepest sympathy to you all. Bob was a true friend and a great cop in good times and bad. We will miss his infectious smile and easy laughter. He was a mentor to me when we were young and credit him for bringing me into the fold of the RCMP 37 years ago when he convinced me to apply and gave reference for me. He and you are in our prayers. May God Bless my pal and hunting buddy. - Posted by: Len and Pauline Busch (Friend and Co-worker) on: Dec 23, 2015
