FLORENCE (PENNY) ELSIE LACH (nee NIKKEL) With sadness and sorrow we must announce the passing of our Dear Mother peacefully on December 20, 2015 at the age of 86. Penny is survived by her son Curtis and daughter Gail (Lawrence) Doherty. She is also survived by sister Dorothy Shute and brother Cy (Brenda) Nikkel. Also left to mourn are Jan Baziuk, granddaughters Alexa and Kaylee Baziuk as well as grandson Christopher Panich and granddaughter Jennifer (Kyle) Westerlund and great-grandchildren Brayden, Megan, Connor and Adam Westerlund. Also left to mourn are sister-in-law Helga (Helmut) Lange and Irma Meuller in Germany, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and of course friends. Penny was predeceased by her husband Gerry in 2004 and daughter Marlene in 2003. She will join them now in Heaven eternally. She was also predeceased by her parents John and Katherine Nikkel as well as sister Grace Regelous, sister Ann Day, brother Vic Nikkel and sister Ruth Zilke. Florence was born on July 15, 1929 in Winnipeg and as a young girl many of her friends began using nicknames for her that she did not like too much. She said very distinctly "no you are not calling me that". Then someone thought of Penny Nikkel and that just suited her fine. She would then and forever be known as Penny. If you asked Penny "What in Life did You have the most fun at ?", her immediate response was raising her babies. She loved people and would bring happiness to people of all ages. She spent her working years serving people food and drink. She worked at places like The Paddock, Town and Country and Rae and Gerry's as well as serving schnapps at Octoberfest for many years. During her leisure time she loved to play bingo and she just loved to yell "Bingo". She enjoyed baking, many times packing up some goodies for her granddaughters and her friends at Bingo. She also recently really enjoyed playing crib with her sister Dorothy. She really loved everything and everybody during her journey through life. Remember her when you go out for dinner or have a drink or perhaps when you yell Bingo. She touched the hearts of many in her life and we are sure there are many warm and wonderful memories you all have to share and cherish. Our memories of her will live on forever. I am home in Heaven, Dear ones: Oh, so Happy and so Bright There is perfect Joy and Beauty In this Everlasting Light All the Pain and Grief is over Every restless tossing past I am now at Peace Forever Safely Home at Last Many Thanks to all the Staff at the Grace Hospital for their comfort and caring they gave Mom during her time there.
