LINDA HANSON It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Linda Hanson, on Sunday, December 27, 2015, just six days before her 92nd birthday. Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her daughter, Janet Nylen of Oakbank, Manitoba; granddaughter, Tracy Nylen of Winnipeg; as well as her grandson and his family, James (Pennie), Jaime, Trinity and Chase Nylen of Erickson, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1986 and her son Bob in 2002. On January 2, 1924, Linda was born in Bacup, Lancashire, England. Near the beginning of the Second World War, she met her future husband when he was stationed in England and came to visit his cousins. After the war they were married and Linda crossed the Atlantic with many other war brides who came to Canada. Originally, thinking that they would move back to England in a year or so, they made their first home together in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, where Bob was born. In 1948, they moved to Brandon, Manitoba where they lived for over 40 years. They made many special friends in Brandon and Linda never regretted not moving back to England, although she did go back to visit there several times. Linda was a trained bookkeeper and had an aptitude for accounting, but in 1966 she went back to school to pursue her true passion; helping people; and she became a Welfare Worker. Linda truly enjoyed her work but took early retirement to care for her husband. Soon after her husband died, Linda moved to Oakbank to be closer to her children, but she always kept in touch with her Brandon friends as well as many friends she still had in England. Linda enjoyed traveling and her trips took her to Jamaica, Florida, California, Nevada, Arizona, the Maritimes, British Columbia as well as England. She was very resourceful and talented and willing to try different challenges, which included building the much loved cabin at 5th St. N. in Clear Lake, Manitoba, upholstering furniture, sewing wedding and grad dresses, to name but a few. Linda also enjoyed wallpapering, gardening, cooking her family's favourites and up until the last 18 months or so, she kept active with current affairs, crosswords and of course her favourite, Sudoku. In compliance with Linda's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend many thanks to the care and compassion given to our Mum/Grandma by the staff at Betel Personal Care Home in Selkirk over the last 11 months. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to a charity of choice. For those who wish to sign Wojcik's online Guest Book please visit our website at www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
