ANNA SELYEM September 13, 1924 - December 29, 2015 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our mother, sister and aunt at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Louis. Left to mourn and cherish her memory are her son Joseph (Ilona), brother Joseph Pocker, her numerous nieces and their families, Elizabeth Remenyi (Joseph, Veronika, Thomas), Kati Nagy (Tibi, Kathi, Carolina, Virginia), very good friends Dan, Leslie, Elizabeth Szabo and her family; relatives in Hungary, Agnes and Peter and family, George, Zsofi, Erika Takacs and Eva and Ed from the United States. Anna was born in Hungary. After the revolution in 1956, Anna, Louis and their son Joe left Hungary and arrived in Canada in 1957 and made Winnipeg their home. In 1962 they bought a farm near OakBank where they owned, bred and trained thoroughbred horses. They loved horses so much they were racing them at Assiniboia Downs for almost 50 years. Anna made so many dear friends at the racetrack, they are too numerous to mention individually. They are all going to miss her dearly. She also worked as a furrier at Eaton's for 30 years. She loved flowers so much she had her hot house filled with them in the winter and many planted outside in the summer around the house. Unfortunately over the last few years, her health was deteriorating and her memory was fading. The family would like to thank Dr. Dueck and staff for caring for her for such a long time. Special thanks also to all the staff at Red River Place Extendicare in Selkirk for the kindness and compassion shown to Anna during her time living there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anna's memory to the Alzheimer Society. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Cooks Creek, with Father Joseph Tran presiding. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Cooks Creek with Father Joseph Tran presiding.
