WILFRED WILLIAM MCTAVISH June 13, 1920 - December 30, 2015 Wilf was born in the village of Cardale, Manitoba, where he grew up and attended school. He taught for one year at Whitebank Lea before joining the Canadian Air Force in 1941 as a radar technician. After training in Canada he was posted to Great Britain where he served four years. In England, 1945 he met and married Winifred Jones, a W.A.A.F. in the British Forces. They returned to Canada and farmed near Cardale, MB for 12 years. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1959, where he worked for the Veteran's Land Act, and later the Farm Credit Corporation, until retirement. He and Win retired to Lee River for 12 years and then moved to Paradise Village. In later years they moved to Dakota House where they made many friends and enjoyed numerous activities. They traveled extensively to Kenya, the Galapagos, Ecuador, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, India, Nepal, and many times to France and England. Wilf was a loving and supportive husband and a wonderfully caring father. He supported many charities and was an ongoing donor of blood. After his family, curling was the love of his life. He spent many happy years curling and is a Past-President of the Pembina Curling Club. In summer he was an avid gardener and golfer and he and Win found great joy in paddling our lakes and rivers. Wilfred is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Winifred, his sister Mary (Bill) Webb, his son Alan (Scilla) and daughter Barbara (Gerard), five grandchildren Lee, Rex, Jerome, Natasha, and Jacques, two great-grandchildren Ruben and Meadow, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents T.J. (Jim) and Maude, and three brothers Chester, Norman, and Lorne. We would like to thank all who touched his life and care, and in particular the Palliative Care nurses of the W.R.H.A., Christine from CancerCare Manitoba, and the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Riverview Health Centre. A celebration of Wilf's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Dakota House, 1145 Dakota Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
