KENNETH ROBERT MACLEOD
Date of Passing: Jan 05, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH ROBERT MACLEOD Passed on January 5, 2016 Peacefully, with his family by his side, Dad passed away at the age of 89 years at Misericordia Place. Lovingly remembered by his family Gail (Greg Tretiak) - Tory, Michael; Jocelyn - Samantha, Nate; Craig (Dawn) - Casey, Reid; Rana (Ron Pearce); Jay (Robin) - Jada, Raegan; and grandson James Gallagher (Stephanie) -Kobe, Anika, Kyran, Declan, as well as the Peppler in-laws - Gerry (Bev), Gerry, Emily and, many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by Mom (Terry Peppler) in 2009, and his youngest daughter Beryl (Gallagher) in 1984. Born (January 2, 1927) and raised in Edmonton, the youngest of eight, Dad was very active in athletics especially loving boxing and basketball, and was perhaps the Edmonton Eskimos biggest fan. Dad joined the TD Bank directly out of high school and it was at one of his early postings that he met Mom. They married in 1953 and raised six children through nine moves across Saskatchewan and Manitoba. No matter where they called home Dad would become involved in community events coaching sports and involvement with service clubs, and many lifelong friendships were made in all the communities. He even found time to golf and garden. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a family man, a generous man and a gentleman. Upon retirement from the bank, he convinced Mom to keep house for Rana and Jay... in San Diego... as they studied golf management. There he and Mom enjoyed the sun and milder temperatures and he discovered a new hobby, garage sales. Upon returning to Canada, they settled in Stonewall and Dad continued gardening, woodworking and supporting his grandchildren's many sporting and musical interests. You could always count on Dad for a spirited game of cribbage, a game that he proudly taught his grandchildren. What a busy, full life he had! We all smile when remembering Dad's sense of humour and his dry, witty comments. Even though in the last few years when dementia took away more and more of his memories, sparks of that dry wit would shine through and bring a smile through the tears. Dad, to us, you will always be "eleventy-two". The family would like to thank the staff of Misericordia Place, especially the Rosewalk staff for their loving and compassionate care they provided Dad in the last three years. Cremation has taken place and a family interment will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dad's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association: 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6; Misericordia Health Centre Foundation: 99 Cornish Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1A2; or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba: Unit 10 - 120 Donald St, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
