Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRACHEL SCHAUBROECK Sister Rachel Schaubroeck (Soeur Gertrude Thérèse), Fille de la Croix, passed away on January 5, 2016 at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg at the age of 82 with 63 years of Religious Life. Sister Rachel was born in La Salle, MB, March 4, 1933. She attended School in La Salle and in St. Adolphe. After completing her high School studies, Sister Rachel began her religious formation with the Congregation of the Filles de la Croix. She pronounced her first vows in 1953 and in 1958, her final vows in Saint Boniface, MB. Later she attended Normal School and received other academic diplomas such as B.H.Ec and a B.ED. In 1987 she received her formation in pastoral care which prepared her for her numerous pastoral services offered in the various parishes where she resided. Sister Rachel was predeceased by her parents: Archie and Thérèse Schaubroeck (Comeau); as well as by her brothers, Armand, Maurice and Denis; brothers-in-law, Gabriel Simard, Oscar Lagacé and Homer Cayer and sister-in-law, Rose Schaubroeck (Leclaire). Together with the members of her Congregation, Sister Rachel leaves to mourn her, sisters Florence Simard, Eveline Lagacé, Gertrude Gagné (Laurent) and Juliette Cayer; her brothers, Gilles (Eleanor Crombez), Normand, Camile (Denise Gauthier); and sisters-in-law, Florence Schaubroeck (Linn), Patsy Schaubroeck (Doiron), Lorraine Schaubroeck (Rousseau) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Sister Rachel took on a teaching career that lasted over 27 years in the Manitoba Schools of St. Adolphe, St. Malo, St. Norbert and in Saskatchewan at Bellegarde, and Willow Bunch. She specialized in Home Economics in many schools. Her former students took pride in their courses with Sister Rachel as they enjoyed learning to cook as well as how to sew. She was very creative and her classes were always fun. Sister was also involved in starting the Girl Guides in St. Norbert and took part in all of their camping activities which the girls fully enjoyed. After her teaching career, Sister was involved in Pastoral services in the parishes of St. Norbert, MB, and in Kamsack, in Saint-Philippe, as well as in Redvers, Wauchope, and Storthoaks, SK. Sister was also involved in introducing the RCIA programs in many parishes of the Seine River Deanery. Sister took great joy in her catechetical activities. Sister Rachel served nine years as Provincial Superior for the Filles de la Croix, and then, later, rendered many services on various leadership teams. We will remember Sister Rachel for her generosity, using her giftedness to answer the many needs she perceived in her various assigned mission places. She enjoyed reading, cooking, doing cross-word puzzles, knitting, doing all kinds of crafts which she shared with others in need. A woman of faith, deeply spiritual, fun loving, Sister Rachel had a great love of her family and her congregation. She enjoyed meeting new people and her relationships were life giving. An evening of prayer will take place at St. Adolphe Church on Sunday, January 10, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Villa Aulneau, 601 Aulneau Street, Winnipeg, MB.
