CLARA MARTHA BAKER (nee GATZKE) Peacefully on January 5, 2016, Clara passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 91. Clara is survived by her daughter Alison; son Douglas (Linda); and her brother Randolph (Diane). She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Clara was predeceased by her husband Jack and brothers Erwin and Walter and sister Marion. Although born in Germany, Clara grew up and lived in Weyburn, Saskatchewan until she moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba when she was 20. Several years after arriving in Winnipeg Clara met Jack and they were married. Clara had a lifelong love of learning and after some years of working as an administrative assistant she returned to school to complete a B.A. at the University of Winnipeg and an M.A. at Lewis & Clark College at Portland State. Clara worked for many years with the Education Department at the University of Winnipeg; a place and environment where she felt most at home and comfortable. An avid curler in her younger years, Clara preferred a laid back approach to retirement doing crossword puzzles, reading and cutting out newspaper articles in between the more arduous task of translating books: which she thoroughly enjoyed. Clara was always up for travel and a bit of adventure and loved to venture out to visit friends and family. Funeral arrangements are in care of Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway, and Clara will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery with a small graveside service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society in Clara's memory. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 HENDERSON HWY 204-338-0331 Condolences may be sent to www.klassenfuneralhome.com
