Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATERINA GRESTONI May 29, 1928 January 12, 2016 With great sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Caterina Grestoni, beloved Mother, and Nonna. Caterina was recently predeceased by her loving husband Igino, of 66 years, her parents Virginia and Lamberto Forlini, sister Dina Carloni, and brothers Vittorio and Pino Forlini. She is survived by her daughters Graziella (Ed), Natalina (James), Francesca (Lyle), Carla (Randall) and Norina. Also, grandchildren Lynne, Kevin, Jordan (Genaro), Christopher (Hayley), Randy (Roxanne), Tara, Daniel and young Jack; and great-grandchildren Alix, Savannah, Jaiyden, Lincoln and Joseph. Caterina was born in the town of Arcevia, Italy. A short time later her family moved to the village of Trapozzo where she would meet her future husband. They enjoyed many years together as children and teenagers, eventually marrying in 1949. They had two children born in Italy, Graziella and Natalina. Caterina was a proud home-maker and worked hard on the family farm in Italy. In 1953, in search of a more prosperous life, her husband Gino immigrated to Canada and eight months later, together with her two daughters, she made the long voyage across the ocean to be with him. Settling in St. Boniface, and continuing to be a home-maker, she became Mamma to three other daughters. She cherished her children, always putting them ahead of herself and she was very proud of her beloved husband's accomplishments. She loved the outdoors, simply sitting in the warm sunshine, gardening, playing cards, making fresh pasta and gnocchi, which her family all loved to eat. Nonna especially enjoyed looking after the small grandchildren and watching them grow up. In her later years Caterina and Gino joined several senior bowling leagues where she enjoyed meeting new friends and winning prizes. She also enjoyed playing their weekend bocce games with other relatives and friends. Mamma we will always remember your sparkling blue eyes, your funny sayings, your smile and laughter. We will cherish these memories forever and keep you close to our hearts. Ciao bella Mamma mia, riposa in pace. The service will be held Monday, January 18, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road, with viewing at 10:30 a.m. A private family entombment at Holy Angel Mausoleum will follow the reception.
