CAROL HELGA FINNSON Peacefully, on January 12, 2016, at the Arborg Personal Care Home, Carol Finnson passed away, at the age of 75 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Brent, Curtis (Brenda), Darcy (Candace); her grandchildren, Kari, Joel, Dayna, Tanner, Parker, Amber and Keira. Carol was predeceased by her husband Thor (Joey) Erlendson; and infant daughter Corrine; and second husband Hjalti Palsson; her parents, Fridrik and Helga Finnson; and her siblings, Kristin Magnusson, Kristjon Finnson and Dora Fridfinnson. She will be sadly missed by her brother Tryggvi (Anna) Finnson, her sister Hilda McPhail and sister-in-law Josephine Finnson. Carol was born September 7, 1940 in Vidir, MB. After graduating from high school in Arborg, she attended Teacher's College at Manitoba Normal School and taught at Framnes, Broad Valley, Riverton and Arborg for many years. She then was a secretary at the Interlake Development Corporation Inc., after that was the Treasurer for the Corporation and Tourism Projects Coordinator for the Interlake Tourist Association, and finally employed by the Village of Arborg, as an office assistant, she attained her Certificate for a Manitoba Municipality Administrator and then held the position of the Assistant Municipal Administrator, retiring in 2000. Her twinkling blue eyes, radiant smile was most evident when surrounded by her family and friends. She was a very selfless individual, with an unwavering sense of devotion to her sons and loved each one of them unconditionally. Amma was very proud of her grandchildren and got great pleasure and joy from spending time with them. She loved having people into her home of any age, and visit over a cup of coffee, the pots were endless. This is where she would keep up to date on family, the community, current affairs, politics and her Icelandic Culture. Carol was a true lifelong learner, well read, open minded and was a forward thinking individual. Her infectious enthusiasm and tireless creative efforts were inspiring. Mom was very artistic and she would spend many hours creating our various treasured pieces of: knitting, sewing, crocheting, needle work, drawings and paintings. She loved spending countless hours reading and in her flower beds, she grew a wide range of flowers, and she shared her abundant beauty of her garden with others. Every spring she looked forward to going to see the crocuses bloom. She also loved nature, scenery and animals, especially collecting special rocks from all over and her cat "Kissa". The most defining trait of our mother was her resilience, with her many setbacks along the way, she always picked herself up and moved forward. Her strong will and spirit never faltered, right to the end. Her kind and gentle spirit will be warmly remembered by those that had the privilege to know and love her. Funeral services will be held at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Sauer officiating. Donations may be made in memory of Carol to The Arborg Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, P.O. Box 301, Arborg, MB R0C 0A0. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Arborg Personal Care Home and Arborg Hospital for their kindness, dedication and the quality of care extended to Carol over the years.
