Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL MICHAEL ZAHAYKO Suddenly and peacefully, Paul Michael Zahayko, aged 89, passed away on January 12, 2016. Paul was predeceased by his loving wife Lucy; parents Nicholas and Dora Zahayko; sisters Nellie, Anne, Doreen and brother George. He is survived by sons Murray (Debbie), Bob (Gail) and Darren (Bonnie); grandchildren Samantha (Derek), Taylor (Scott), Graham (Nancy), Gregory (Stacey), Brittany (Dustin), Lee (Mike) and Ryan; great- grandchildren Oliver, Danica, Scarlett and Sofia. Also surviving Dad is nephew Don Korbas, who was more like a brother to Dad and many extended family and friends. Paul was born in East Selkirk, Manitoba on May 17, 1926. Paul lived most of his life on the family farm in East Selkirk. He started working at the Manitoba Rolling Mills at the age of 17, bicycling to and from work every day, saving enough to purchase a car. He retired after 40 years of service. On July 18, 1953, Paul married the love of his life Lucy and raised their family of three boys. Paul enjoyed repairing his cars, working the farm and socializing with their friends. He especially enjoyed dancing with Lucy and friends at Poplar Park Barn Dances. Summers were spent driving east and west visiting relatives, and hosting many family get-togethers on the farm. Later in life he enjoyed travelling with friends and family and making frames for Lucy's Ukrainian Easter eggs. Paul also volunteered at various East Selkirk community events. Thanks to Selkirk Home Care and residents of Tollak Place, Muriel, Jaimie and Cher. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 15 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. A private interment of ashes will take place at a later date in East Selkirk Cemetery.
