Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLES EUGENE (GENE) BRITTON 1920 - 2016 Formerly of Thunder Bay and Graham Ontario, Gene passed away on January 15, 2016. Survived by his wife of 42 years, Marie-Anne (nee Boucher); son Tom (Marg) and grandson Duncan (Amy); son Dusty (Dora) and grandson Shane, and son Randy (Carol) and grandsons Ryan, Kevin (Heather) and great-granddaughter Aubrey. Predeceased by parents Charles Britton and Martha (nee Ratzliff), sister Ethel Tozer (Del), Doreen Cook (Ernie), and infant brother Garth. Survived by Aunt Ann Ratzliff and niece Louise Tozer-Brown (Ray). Gene will be remembered by Marie's children Claudette St. Pierre, Ron (Diane) Havens and Robert (Annette) Havens. Gene was also "Grandpa" to Marie's seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his stepmother Anna Britton and is survived by his stepsiblings, Ruth (Nic), Naomi (Dave), Tim (Sandy), Arthur (Janice), Mary (Maurice), Dan (Susan), Jim (Lisa), and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A Second World War veteran, Gene spent many years working for the City of Thunder Bay Parks Board before moving to Graham, Ontario where he operated the "Trading Post", supplying tourists as well as residents, and also became the school bus driver to the town of Upsala. After retiring in 1980, Gene and Marie travelled to many destinations. While at home they pursued their hobby of tending a trap line. Gene's pride and joy after retiring was building and operating his own private sawmill, producing lumber for his passion of building furniture. They moved to Winnipeg in 1989 for medical reasons. He built and operated a small workshop, building children's furniture and wooden toys. The family extends deepest gratitude to the staff of Tower 5 at Deer Lodge Centre for the excellent and compassionate care given to Charles over the last five years. Cremation has taken place.
