MARY AMY CHRISTIAN (nee TRUDGEON) 1919 - 2016 On January 25, 2016, Mary Amy Christian went to be with her heavenly family. Mary was born on September 21, 1919, at Travellan Farm in the Hope Hill District, Whitewood, Saskatchewan, to Arthur Trudgeon and Florence Victoria Follington. Mary was united in marriage February 3, 1937, to Robert Ivan Christian at Rocanville, Saskatchewan. They lived most of their years farming in the Swan River Valley of Manitoba, beginning mixed farming at Rocanville, Saskatchewan, and a couple of years at Edwin, Manitoba. They moved into the Swan Valley Plaza in 1998, and Mary enjoyed it there for 10 years. She moved to St. Andrews, Manitoba in 2008, and lived here until her passing. Mary travelled to England, France, and visited family throughout Canada. During the last six years she liked to escape winter with her daughter Linda in Carlisle, Ontario, where it is milder, taking part and enjoying family there. She was an active volunteer in the community throughout the years, organizing evenings of cards, games, and entertainment. She was a founding member of the Swan Valley Museum Active Belles. She belonged to the Seniors Club in Kenville, Manitoba, and lead 4H for young people. Mary was a member of the Kenville United Church. Mary played baseball as a youth, and was the back catcher, a position she often challenged her children and grandchildren for until recently. She followed curling, football, hockey and boxing with a passion. She crocheted, knit, quilted and sewed clothing, as well as being a wonderful cook and gardener. She milked cows, managed the separator and then helped with chores daily. Mary was a caregiver in her home to her mother in her declining years, and she kept her door open providing food, a bed, and loving care for many others. Every fall, Mary took part driving truck during harvest, and then enjoyed the thrill of hunting season. Mary's five children, Melvyn, Herbert, Linda, Betty, and Gordon, provided her with 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, which she treasured. She was predeceased by her five siblings Dorothy Mihalus, William Trudgeon, Margaret Nordlund, Emily Dorma, and John Trudgeon. Her husband of over 60 years, Robert Ivan Christian died in 1998. She was also predeceased by her son Herbert John Christian (2006); son-in-law Daniel Filipowich (2015); and her grandson Lionel White (1988). Service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. • How much we will miss that wonderful smile that was the first thing we would see when we met with Mary. Her twinkle is now a star in the sky. Lots of love and hugs Linda to you and your family during this difficult time. We will catch up when you get back to Ontario. Much love, Jude - Posted by: Judy Padfield (cousin to Linda and Peter White) on: Jan 29, 2016
