Mary was born on September 21, 1919, at Trevellian Farm, in the Hope Hill District, RM of Willowdale, Saskatchewan, at 4:00 p.m., to Florence Victoria Follington, and Arthur Trudgeon. Mary was united in marriage February 3, 1937, to Robert (Bob) Ivan Christian of Rocanville, Saskatchewan, at the United Church Manse in Rocanville, SK. Mary and Bob lived the most of their lives farming in the Swan River Valley of Manitoba. They started out at Rocanville, SK, mixed farming, for a couple of years, and moved to Benito, MB, and then on to the Ruby District. A few years later they moved to Edwin, MB and grew potatoes. In 1948 they moved back to the Ruby District in the Swan River Valley of Manitoba. Mary and Bob retired to the Swan Valley Plaza condos in 1998, and Mary enjoyed it there for ten years. In the spring of 2008, Mary moved to St. Andrews, MB to live with her daughter Betty, and family. Mary travelled to England, France, and throughout Canada, visiting relatives. She liked to escape severe winter and stay with her daughter Linda and family, in Carlisle, Ontario, enjoying milder temperatures and socializing with family there. Mary was an active volunteer in the communities they resided throughout the years. She organized entertainment of whist drives, crocinole, baseball and other events in the local school. Mary was a founding member of the Swan Valley Museum Active Belles, as secretary treasure. She belonged to the Seniors Club in Kenville, MB, and was a 4-H leader for young people. Mary was a member of the United Church, at Kenville, MB. Mary played baseball as a youth, and was the back catcher. Over her years she loved to challenge her children and grandchildren until recently. She followed curling, baseball, football, hockey, and boxing with a passion. She crocheted, knit, quilted, sewed clothing, as well as being a wonderful cook and gardener, and mother. She milked cows, managed the separator, and then helped with daily chores with a cheerful grace. Mary was a caregiver, in her home, to her mother in her declining years, and she kept her door open providing food, a bed, and loving care for many others. Every fall, Mary did her part taking meals to the field and driving truck during harvest, and then enjoyed the thrill of hunting season. Mary's five children, Melvyn, Herb, Linda, Betty and Gordon will cherish her forever. Her treasured grandchildren, Bruce (Phebe), Suraya (Peter), Mark (Cory); Robin (Jeff); Andrew (Kim), Craig (Pam); Derek (Cheryl), Kim (Michael), Matt; Tina, Rob (Lisa), Josh, and Jon, brought great joy. Mary welcomed her 22 great-grandchildren, and five great great-grandchildren. Mary's husband of over 60 loving years, Robert Ivan Christian died in December of 1998. Both Mary and Robert's parents predeceased them. She was predeceased by her five siblings and their spouses, Dorothy Mihalus, William Trudgeon, Margaret Nordlund Hilsden, Emily Dorma Ellefson, and John Trudgeon.
