KATHERINE JANET ATKINS It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Katherine Janet Atkins. Kathy died peacefully at the Boyne Lodge on January 29, 2016. Kathy was born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario on December 28, 1922 where she lived with her mother, father and four siblings until she entered St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1944. After graduation, as a registered nurse, Kathy enjoyed a varied and esteemed career in the nursing field in both Ontario and Manitoba. Predeceased by her first husband, Reg Hibbert (1955), and second husband Blake Atkins (1994), Kathy is survived by her daughter Janet Schlackl (Dieter), stepchildren Zenith Coates (Brian), Iris Ann Overby (Ken), Doug (Leanne), Ron (Kathie), 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as special nephews and nieces. Mom met the challenges of her life with good humour, thankful for her blessings, and not dwelling on her difficulties. She was generous of spirit and always considered the needs of others before herself. Mom was a loving, devoted, and proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend and we will miss her dearly. We are deeply grateful for the staff at the Boyne Lodge for all the outstanding care that they provided for Kathy. Thank you to Marnie Fry and her staff of In Good Hands for their commitment and care of Mom during the past couple of years. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Carman Mennonite Church, 105 Main St. North, Carman, MB with Karen Tjaden officiating. Interment will be in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boyne Lodge, Box 1644, Carman, MB R0G 0J0 or Carman United Church Memorial Fund, Box 1177, Carman, MB R0G 0J0.
