JOAN TARRANT (nee HUDSON) Joan Tarrant passed away peacefully at Buchanan Lodge in New Westminster, B.C. on the January 25, 2016 at the age of 88. Joan was predeceased by parents, William and Rosa Hudson; brother Roy; and sister Mavis Brown (Eldon. She is survived by husband Rex; brother Harvey Hudson (Margaret Ann) of Ft. Frances; children, Keith, Bruce (Lesley) of Winnipeg, Darrell (Simone) of Kenora, Val Webster (Jack) of Ft. Frances, and Lynda Hamer-Mallinson (Steve) of Surrey, B.C. Joan delighted in her many grandchildren. After leaving school Joan enrolled at The Success Business College graduating with Gold Medals in both typing and shorthand. She then joined the Federal Civil Service as a secretary. In 1952 she met Rex, an R.A.F. Officer completing his flying training in Winnipeg. They corresponded for a year and were later married in England. Joan spent the next five years as an Air Force Wife, starting her family in England. In 1958 she returned to Canada and devoted the next few years to her family before re-starting her career. Joan worked for the Dept. of Indian Affairs. Donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Society. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

  • Joan welcomed me into the family with open arms and continued to keep those arms open and welcome when I was no longer married into the family and had moved on. She graciously accepted my new husband, Henry, into her home and included him as well in part of family celebrations.
