Our Aunt Kay, had a great sense of humour, was always cheerful, full of joy-d'vive, energetic. Her sense of humour rivalled Uncle Henry's! Aunt Margaret and Aunt Kay were the only two out of a family of 13 children, who were 'allowed' by the family economics to study beyond secondary school. Aunt Margaret Toews went to Normal School and became a teacher. AUNT KAY took her Registered Nursing designation at the St. Boniface Hospital, and spent many years working as a nurse. I remember her in her crisp white uniform, her glorious Nursing Cap with it's nursing pin stuck on it, and this gorgeous navy blue nursing cape that had to be worn over the uniform whenever she left the hospital. I remember visiting the St. Boniface Hospital when Aunt Kay was studying there, and admiring how 'professional' she looked when she came 'off duty'! I remember learning to ride on one of either Auntie Margaret's or Auntie Kay's brand new CCM bicycles, and depending on whose bicycle I was riding, that auntie 'hovering' over me, just in case I came to a crash landing and broke something on the bicycle. I remember Aunt Kay visiting with Aunt Margaret when our Mom, their older sister, and our Dad celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary; and I remember when they came to visit our Mom in the nursing home, and I remember when they came for our Mom's funeral. We will miss our Aunt Kay. She is now at peace, where "...God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain ... And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." And He said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true…" [Rev.20:3-5]. - Posted by: Marianne J. Auntie Kay was always my "other mother" particularly after my own mother, Linda, passed away 33 years ago. She was always cheerful, kind and compassionate, helping me with raising my children in whatever way we needed. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Have a good rest! I remember Kay from when she was in nursing school, or it may have been shortly after her graduation. She was visiting at our house in Winnipeg one day, and voluntarily treated an infected toe for me. I am 7 years younger than she and recall her courting Norman, who was my cousin. Kay is remembered for always being friendly, witty, and intelligent. Sadly, I have not seen her in many years due to having relocated to Texas, in my retirement. - Posted by: Gordon Giesbrecht (Cousin in-law) on: Feb 09, 2016
