ROBERT HUGH BLAIR Robert Hugh Blair, 88 years old, in Winnipeg Manitoba, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 5, 2016, at Riverview Health Centre, after defying cancer for 10 years. Robert (Bob) was born on June 2, 1927 near Crandall, Manitoba, after his family emigrated from Ireland earlier that year. He was the eldest boy in a family of 13. Bob left home when he was 16 and went to live with his sister Lil Espey and husband Roy on the farm near Cardale. Theirs became a second family for him. Bob retired from the CN in 1981 after 35 years as Yardmaster at Symington. He was an active man and volunteered with many organizations from the Elks to Chad's Bar at Deer Lodge to coach and referee in numerous sports. He was an active traveler, with many trips to the sun and sand with a vast network of good friends. Well known for his warm hugs and strong handshake, Bob made friends wherever he went. His heart, mind and soul remained young until the end. Bob married his sweetheart Lila in 1948 and they had five children. He is survived by Ken, Diane, Cindy and David, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his siblings Mark, John, Herb and Florence. He was predeceased by Lila, daughter Deb, and granddaughter Breanne. Bob met Nancy in 1999 and being the "smooth guy" he was, brought his new girlfriend home. Nancy was a loving companion and they shared many years of happy times. Thank you to the great folks at CancerCare Manitoba and Riverview Health Centre for the comfort and care that was given to our Dad. Robert's life will be celebrated on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Deer Lodge Foundation. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Blair family-We extend our sincere sympathy on the loss of Bob. Bob and Bill were teenage buddies and shared some happy times including your folks 50th anniversary and some sad times as in 1964 when our Kenny died. We regret that we are unable to be with you for the service as we are not up to driving in winter. We remember you all as a happy family-God bless. • Words fail. Bob was an inspiration and role model of how life should be lived post retirement. He will be missed very much by many people, all of whom were enriched through their association with him. - Posted by: Larry Larke (friend) on: Feb 14, 2016
