WILLIAM ORLANDO JORHEIM
Born: Jan 21, 1924
Date of Passing: Feb 13, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM ORLANDO JORHEIM January 21, 1924 - February 13, 2016 Peacefully, at Deer Lodge Centre, William (Bill) Jorheim passed away, at the age of 92 years. Bill was born in Inwood, Manitoba, the fifth child of 13, to parents who emigrated from Norway. He received his education by "walking uphill both ways" to Union Prairie and Inwood Schools. Bill left home at the age of 14 to work in Alberta. In 1941, he joined the 1st Canadian Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery and was shipped off to Britain to join the 57th Battalion. Although his unit was unable to be involved with the invasion of Sicily, he still saw much action throughout Italy. In 1944, his unit joined the Canadian Army in Northwestern Europe, where a picture was taken of him and his crew, which now hangs in the War Museum in Ottawa. Upon demobilization in 1945, Bill became active in construction, where he rose to be superintendent for 15 years with Arlington Builders and 10 years with W.W. Construction. He retired at 51 only to keep himself busy developing land in St. Andrews and designing/building three houses, one which became his home for almost 30 years, along a street that bears the family name. The construction bug never left him as he continued working on many projects around his home. Even with his eyesight starting to fail, Bill kept on fixing things up, whether it needed fixing or not. Bill loved being outdoors. He enjoyed taking care of his land and all that was part of it, from the fruit trees, grapes and berries, to the huge garden where he shared the bounties with his family and friends. Unfortunately, a time came when Bill had to slow things down, move to Winnipeg and for the last three years took residence at Deer Lodge. The family would like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge for the care and comfort they gave our Dad while he was there. Meeting Bill at his "Happy Hunting Ground" are his parents Ole and Ingrid, his first wife Rita, second wife Anne, third wife Verna; brothers, Ed, Olaf, Clarence, Bert, Norman; sisters, Betty and Alice. Left here to cherish the memories is his daughters, Debby, Dianne (Ken) and Karen (Tim); grandchildren, Shaun, Terry, Jennifer, Michael (Chelsea), Amanda, Kevin and Andrea; great-grandchildren, Alex, Jeffery, Sadie, Johnathan and Hailey; sisters, Lilly, Irene, Margy, Alma and Violet; sisters-in-law, Frieda and Ingrid; numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. Dad's motto in life: when a man leaves this world and looks back on the road he has walked, his greatest satisfaction can be to say to himself, "this world is a little better because I was there!". Well-done, good and faithful servant. Sleep in peace Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother and Friend. Your rest is won. A celebration of Bill's life will be held February 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Deer Lodge Centre. Paid parking available in staff lot on Portage Avenue across from Deer Lodge. Interment at Inwood Cemetery. It was my privilege to read Scripture and pray with dear Mr. Jorheim once a week. He loved and appreciated reading and praying together. His favorite Psalm was Psalm 23. He had it memorized and he would say it along with me. When we got to verse 4, Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me, he always said, "I like that". He bore his illness with grace, strength, and peace. His mind was always active. He was always a gentleman. What a joy to know him. With sympathy to his dear family. - Posted by: Linda Robertson (Friend) on: Feb 22, 2016

My heartfelt condolences to all of you, Debby, Diane, Karen and your families. As a little girl, I remember thinking Uncle Bill was like the Friendly Giant... I always had to look way way up and every time I did, I saw a kind and welcoming smile. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. xo - Posted by: Valerie Smith (Barker) (neice) on: Feb 22, 2016

I am so sorry. I wish I would have had the opportunity to get to know you, Bill. I enjoyed our several meetings at your home though. So sorry. - Posted by: Lorelie Jorheim (Niece (Lilly's oldest daughter)) on: Feb 20, 2016
