Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARION MILLS With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Marion Mills on Thursday February 18, 2016 at the Riverview Health Care Center. Marion was born on the family farm just north of Maryfield, SK. on June 20, 1926. Marion was preceded by her parents, Marion (nee Fielding) and Ralph; her stepmother Pearl (nee Musgrove); sister-in-law Bernice (nee Gillett); younger brother Gordon and her dearest friend Irene (Andy) Anderson. Marion is survived by her older brother Ralph; sister-in-law Marie; her nephews, Kerry, Kevin (Rae) and Scott (Natalie); grandnieces and nephews, Sarah (Andrew), Kathryn (Arlo), Zach, Zoe, Georgia; great-grandniece Isadora and her longtime friend Edna Siemens. She also leaves behind cousins, Marcella, Mattie, Isabel, Reuben, Elaine, Muriel, Lucille, Bob, Ed and many friends and associates. Marion was an excellent student completing her grade 9 at Inglesfield School, then graduating grade 12 from Moosomin Collegiate. She then moved to Winnipeg, attending United College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1946. The following year she received her Diploma in Education at the University of Manitoba. She taught elementary school for 11 years, then pursued more specialized education attending Northwestern University in Illinois where she received her Master of Arts in Speech Pathology in 1959. She returned to Winnipeg where she began her long years of service at the Winnipeg Child Guidance Clinic. Marion was a pioneer being one of the first Speech and Hearing clinicians licensed in the province. She spent many years working with children in schools, becoming a department Head and retiring as an Area Director. She was awarded several certificates for her work in the field at the provincial and federal level as well as recognition from the American Speech and Hearing Association. Marion was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and sat on various committees. She was also a great supporter of several charities and causes. Marion enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved the many years spent at the cabin at Caddy Lake. Marion supported and enjoyed the Arts, Theater and Ballet. She loved nature and the outdoors, was an avid photographer, golfer, bowler, and loved animals. Travelling was almost a hobby, visiting many countries and most of North America. Quite a life for a girl from the farm. We will miss that smile! The Family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Care 4D for their kind care of Marion. A funeral service will be held for Marion at 1:00 p.m. on March 10, 2016 at All Saints Church, 175 Colony St., Winnipeg, MB.
