YVONNE SMITH (nee MORIN) It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Yvonne (Grammy) on February 21, 2016, after a brief illness. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Donna Kolbuck-Street (Jerry) and Arlene Phillips (Brian); grandchildren Shannon Owings (Steven), and Dan Hawksworth (Andrea Reid); son-in-law Ron Hawksworth; sisters-in-law Joyce Morin and Bette Morin; many nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Smith; daughter Helene Hawksworth, son Kevin Smith, and son-in-law David Street. Also predeceased by her parents Alexandre and Victoria Morin, brothers Alex Morin (Hilda), Alan Morin, Albert Morin, and Bill Morin (Ruth), sisters Mary Boyd (Earl), Clara Vanoutrive (Roger), Rose Fraser (Donald) and Betty Lundgren (Carl). Yvonne was born on July 23, 1921 in Harperville, Manitoba. She joined the army at a young age and was a member of the Military Police, where she met and married Freddie. They lived most of their married life in Charleswood and East Kildonan. She was a remarkable person in so many ways and was able to stay in her house until a short time before her death. Her love of music, laughter and family filled her life. She was a best friend to many, especially her daughters and granddaughter. Mom was a very kind, compassionate and hilarious person. She was a treat to be around and could always make us laugh. Losing her will leave a very large hole in our hearts and she will be greatly missed. Having two children predecease her was an incredible loss to overcome, but with her wonderful sense of humour and great strength she was able to deal with this the best way she knew how. Our sincere gratitude to Dr. Ismail Mohammed for the incredible care Mom was given for over 40 years; to Linda and Lorna at Crossroads Medical for their compassion and caring; to the wonderful staff at the Home Care Program, Access River East and most recently all the staff that cared for Mom at Concordia Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Memorial service will be held Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Fly high, travel safely Mom. Big hug. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 HENDERSON HWY. 204-338-0331 Condolences may be sent to www.klassenfuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Auntie Yvonne I will miss your phone calls and the long talks we've had. You always found the humour in everything and taught us all how to laugh. You helped fill the void after Nanny passed away and I'm thankful for that. Thank you for all the great memories. I'd like to say rest in price but I think you will be more like dancing in piece. - Posted by: Victoria Settee (Grand Neice) on: Mar 15, 2016

  • Aunty Yvonne will always be remembered by me as the Special Aunt who cared. I will miss her laughter, her caring spirit, her love of life and the welcome to her home. Save a banana for me when we meet again as you always did. I wish I could have been by her side one more time in life and at the memorial service. - Posted by: Brian VanOutrive (Nephew) on: Feb 26, 2016

  • Ron we pray that you will sense the love of God during this difficult time. - Posted by: Mike and Eva Robertson (friends) on: Feb 26, 2016
