JAMES MACHADO RODRIGUES It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of James Rodrigues. He suddenly succumbed to his struggle with pulmonary fibrosis at the Victoria Hospital on February 18, 2016 at the age of 83. James is survived by his loving wife Maria da ConceiƧao, children James (Debbie), Sandy (Gene), Judy (Robin), and Richard (Jennifer), grandchildren Adam, Jonathan (Ali), Daniel, Charlton, Isabel, Salvador, Edward, and great-grandchild Jax. James was predeceased by his nine brothers and sisters, and survived by his brother Anibal Rodrigues. James was born in Santa Barbara, Sao Miguel, Portugal on December 2, 1932. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 to begin what became a highly successful 37 year career with the Canadian National Railway. He was devoted to his faith and church community, particularly as a member of the Knights of Columbus Winnipeg St. John Brebeuf Council #1107. He was generous, loyal, and loving. James' generosity also benefitted a wide variety of charities. He came from humble beginnings and was proud to be able to give back to his community. James was an avid sports fan especially for football, soccer, and hockey. He had passion for storytelling and keeping detailed records of all matters of life. He is best remembered for his sense of humour and his laughter. Family was all encompassing for James. He was especially proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, who brought joy to his life every day. He was a devoted husband and partner of 54 years to his dear Maria. He was a friend, confidant, and mentor to many in his extended family, who in turn were devoted to him. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016 at St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place. Father Mark Tarrant presiding. Interment to follow at Thomson "In the Park" Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. LECLAIRE BROTHERS 475 Provencher Blvd., in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220

  • My condolences to the Family. It was a pleasure knowing Jim - he was an excellent "Boss" and Confidant. I often remember our talks and I am sure he will be missed by all.   • Maria and Family, Nancy and I were saddened to hear of Jim's passing, we were just sharing fond memories of him while visiting Auntie Dorthy last week.
