GERALD GEORGE CARON Gerald George Caron passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Tuxedo Villa. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy and their children Gerald (Linda), Tim (Anik), Lawrie (Virginia) and Sandra; sister Barbara; and five grandchildren Marie-Andree, Kathy (Christian), Emilie (Kevin), Nicole (Connor) and Christopher; as well as eleven great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. Gerald was born August 16, 1927 in Winnipeg to Theresa and Henri Caron. He lived most of his life in St. James. After attending St. Paul's High School, he worked at Ashdown's Hardware and later spent 28 years with the Singer Sewing Company. He concluded his sales career with DeFehr Furniture. While working at Singer's he met the love of his life, Dorothy. They were married June 14, 1952. They spent their entire lives together in the home they built in St. James. Gerald found great joy with his family especially times spent at Hillside Beach at the cottage they built. Mornings were spent stoking the fire, drinking a pot of coffee and doing crossword puzzles as he listened to the classical music he enjoyed. He planned his day, whether it was yard work or doing a building project. The end of the day was marked with a good drink on the deck. Many fond memories were made at the lake especially when his grandchildren were around. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Ann's Parish. He was their bookkeeper for many years. His meticulous attention to detail was greatly appreciated. Over the years, he taught catechism, he was a reader, an altar server, and a Eucharistic Minister. Gerald truly reveled in the Easter liturgies. His great faith helped him on his journey back to God. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. from St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Pl. Father Mark Tarrant presiding. Reception to follow. The family wishes to thank all those who have expressed their sympathy in this difficult time and especially the staff of Tuxedo Villa for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Paul's High School Bursary Fund. LECLAIRE BROTHERS 475 Provencher Blvd., in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220

Condolences & Memories (19 entries)

  • Dear Sandra We were so sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. We know how close you were to him. You and your dad used to work around the cottage together, doing projects and yardwork, while your mom watched and contributed ideas. Then in later years, it was you who did the driving and provided care for your parents long before there was home care or Tuxedo Villa. I remember the weekend conference we all attended on Dementia so we could better understand what our parents were going through and how we could improve our care for them. Your dad was lucky to have you as a daughter - you were there for him right until the end. Lawrie was very helpful too. Your dad was a nice man and lived a long life. - Posted by: Laurie and Ken (good friends) on: Mar 04, 2016

  • Our deepest condolences to Gerry, Linda and family. We have long admired Gerry's craftsmanship and attention to detail as evidenced in his house renovations, yet he always said that his father's skills were even greater. He must have been a truly gifted man indeed. We are thinking of you, Gerry and Linda, here in New Brunswick. - Posted by: Lynne and Donald McAlpine (Friends and neighbours of Gerry and Linda Caron) on: Feb 29, 2016

  • Dear Mrs. Caron: I have very pleasant memories of meeting you and your husband at Gerry and Lina's apartment about a week before their wedding. In particular, I recall the beautiful pewter gifts you and your husband gave to Gerry and what a fine gentleman your husband was. I felt it was particularly thoughtful of you to bring homemade sweets and savouries all the way from Winnipeg by air. This could only be the hallmark of a very devoted mother and wife. That night I felt very much a part of your family and, together with with the presence of your other sons and daughter, that evening remains deeply entrenched in my memory. Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your beloved husband. Maura McKeon Dear Gerry and Linda, Maura and I were saddened to learn of Mr. Caron's passing. From his obituary, we see that he lived a full life of commitment to God, his family, his parish and his friends and was generous with his time and talents in serving many good causes. A wonderful memory for you to cherish and a great example for us all to emulate. Our faith tells us he is now in the fullness of life eternal, where, we are certain, he will obtain many graces for all of you who mourn his passing through the power of his intercession. Peace be with you. Robert and Maura - Posted by: Maura McKeon and husband, Robert Wilkins (Friends of Gerry and Linda Caron from Westmount, Québec) on: Feb 28, 2016
