GARRY BROWNIE CHUDZIK 1957 - 2016 Garry was born in Winnipeg on July 3, 1957, the youngest child of Brownie and Constance Chudzik. He was predeceased by his parents in 2005 and 2011. He is survived by his sisters Jennifer Delaquis (Robert) and Gayle, a niece, Carol Kroecker, and nephews Michael and Stephen Delaquis. Garry graduated from Red River College with two diplomas in Computer and Electronic Technology in 1980 and spent about 10 years with the Regina Post Office before returning to Winnipeg. He worked at a number of other industrial locations over the years in various capacities and was the primary caregiver for both his parents as they aged. His last position was with Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata at Winn Gardner Place - it seemed a very good fit for Garry. While I knew my brother well, I am saddened to realize in doing this piece that I didn't really know a lot about his life. We got together every two weeks and did a grocery run which sometimes included a lively political or social discussion. We'd share an occasional meal, watch some TV and do the dishes, then I'd head home but we never talked much about how either of us was feeling. Garry had a soft spot for animals. I often left my dogs in his care and I always knew I could count on his help if I needed it. He had semi-wild rabbits that came up to the door to get a handout all winter and squirrels in the summer too. Garry was a quiet person but he had a good soul. He felt deeply although he rarely expressed those thoughts. He was good and kind although he had his demons. He is gone too soon and I know that I for one will miss him dearly. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). In Garry's memory donations may be made to: Winn Gardner Place, 363 McGregor Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2W 4X4; The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 0R3, or to The Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, 3rd Floor, 1031 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3G 0R8. I am saddened to hear that Garry has passed away. I always thought of Garry as my cousin, though in reality, I think we were second cousins: my mother, Peggy, and Garry’s mother, Connie, were, I believe, cousins. I can fondly remember that as kids in the 1960s we used to swap comics. We’d send copies of British comics and I’d receive a supply of comic books like “Casper” and “Hot Stuff”, much to the envy of my friends. They arrived rolled up and there would always be a pack of lifesavers or something tucked inside. I never got the chance to meet Garry in person, though I feel sure that given the opportunity we would have been friends as well as cousins.
