Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNADETTE ALEXANDRIA KALICHUK August 2, 1936 - February 27, 2016 We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Bernadette (Bernie) Kalichuk on February 27, 2016 at Oakview Place Personal Care Home. Bernadette leaves her husband Alfred, son Robert (Mavis) and their family Tyler, Braden and Ashley, son Verne (Carolyn) and Chris, twin sister Virginia (Marvin) Kuzmiak and many nieces and nephews. Bernadette was predeceased by her parents Paul and Nellie Kachkowski and sister Marion and Bill Gawazuk. Bernadette was born in Garland, Manitoba and the family moved to Sifton, Manitoba when Bernadette was fourteen years old. Bernadette graduated from high school and pursued a teaching career with a permit Teachers Certification from the Teachers College. Bernadette taught school in five rural communities in Manitoba; Favor, Wicklow, Hollybourne, Rivers and Elm Grove. Bernadette took time off from teaching to raise a family and when Robert and Verne were in their early teens, she went to work for Canada Revenue Agency. Bernadette retired in 1992 to join Alfred who had retired the previous year. Bernadette and Alfred spent a few months every year for the next nine years escaping the winter weather in Arizona and Palm Springs areas. In 2008 Bernadette and Alfred celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Rome and Venice. Thank you, Verne. To comply with Bernadette's request, cremation has taken place. A private family tribute has taken place. We wish to thank all the staff at Oakview Place for their care and support for Bernadette over the years. Flowers are declined. Donations in Bernadette's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Bernadette, we will miss you dearly. We all love you and will love you forever. Rest in peace.
