DOREEN JAY In the early morning hours of March 2, 2016, Mom slipped away peacefully to join her husband of 56 years, Cameron, who predeceased her in 2008. Doreen was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. In January 1952, she met Cam when he came to board at the home she shared with her parents and two brothers. He was struck by her wonderful sense of humour, kindness, generosity and beauty, and by Valentine's Day they knew they were destined to spend their lives together and were married that same year. They moved to Winnipeg in 1955, to Guelph in 1958 and England in 1959, where with unfailing devotion, Doreen assisted Cam in obtaining his education before returning to Winnipeg. Despite severe financial hardship, Doreen never regretted staying at home to raise her four children, Maureen (Michael), Marlene (Don), Corinne and Murray. Doreen was also blessed with six grandchildren whom she adored; Rachel and Zoe (Maureen), Curtis and Kirstin (Marlene), Robert and Brittany (Corinne). Of late, Mom joyfully looked forward to visits from her great-grandsons, Kaiden and Radley. Doreen is also survived by Mickey Bambridge (Cam's sister), her three children and their families. Doreen's interests have varied throughout the years. Over a 15 year period, she was a Brownie and Girl Guide leader and later, the Girl Guide Commissioner in Fort Richmond. She enjoyed bowling, football games, cake decorating, knitting and quilting. Doreen and Cam loved to travel. They spent extended time in England, Kenya, Jamaica, New Zealand, Tasmania and Australia. They also travelled North America in their 5th wheeler. Doreen would like to be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was a loyal and fun-loving friend. We would like to thank the staff at St. Norbert Personal Care Home and special friend Ed Larter for helping to bring laughter back into Mom's life in the months prior to her passing. At Doreen's request, no funeral service will be held. Cremation and a private family memorial has taken place. I can remember the first time that I was introduced to Doreen at her apartment. Upon entering, I shook her hand. I was later told that she had liked that. A funny and bright personality is what I wish to remember about her. She just had "this way" about her. She will be missed. - Posted by: Jeff Middlestead (friend) on: Mar 11, 2016

To Maureen, Marlene, Cork and Murray. Shane and I have such fond memories of living and growing up on Patricia Avenue. And mom and dad still talk about Doreen and Cam as "The Best Neighbours Ever". And they were. We send love and warm condolences to all. Audrey, Garry, & Sherrie Johnston - Posted by: Sherrie Johnston (Friend) on: Mar 07, 2016
